I've received a .m4v and it says my Quicktime needs addt'l components to open it - Help!

I've a BRAND NEW Macbook Pro with most updated Quicktime on it PLUS just dowloaded Perian - and

STILL it won't let me open up a dang simple m4v Any suggestions as to WHICH component

I need to download to assist it in doing that?


Thank you - this is highly frustrating and I'm running out of time with my project around this!

- Do you see any specific error message ?

- Is it a video you bought from the iTunes Store ?


You should be able to read that format with QuickTime Player.


To play a protected M4V file (like those on the iTunes Store), the computer needs to be authorized (using iTunes) with the account that was used to purchase the video. However, unprotected M4V files without AC3 audio may be recognized and played by other video players by changing the file extension from ".m4v" to ".mp4".

To see if it is a purchased video click once once the video files and press the cmd - i keys (at the same time) to see the infos window. In that window, in More Infos > Codecs if you see “AVC0 Media” it is a protected video.
