Changing subnet mask from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.254.0

I currently have an address range from 192.168.200.1 to 192.168.200.250 (subnet mask 255.255.255.0).......and I need more IP addresses.

If I change the subnet mask to 255.255.254.0, and increase the DHCP pool from 192.168.200.1 to 192.168.201.254.....will this work.

I have a couple of statically assigned printers, so I am guessing they will need their subnet mask changing as well.

Thanks for your help.

Going from a /24 to a /23? That'll work, for most gear.

Some IP networking gear is unfortunately hard-wired for a /24 subnet, though.

The other common option for these cases involves establishing several subnets.

Subnets (when correctly configured) are helpful in reducing aggregate traffic, as the subnets will contain (most of) the activity to one part of the network and will keep (most of) the traffic off of the local "backbone" links.

I'd tend to go to a subnet scheme here, only because it usally allows me to "contain" the network problems, when they arise.

I didn't verify that 192.168.200.1 to 192.168.201.254 IP address range is valid for a /23.
