cannot update from snow leopard 10.6 to higher versions

Hi there

I "downgraded" myself from Snow Leopard V10.6.8 to V10.6 by installing with the original CD. Pls don't ask why I did it.... Now I am not able to get back to the former Version 10.6.8 as every download is not appropriate for my HD! As a result from the downgrade the following programs did disappear or are not longer to be used: App Store, iPhoto, iDVD and Garage Band!!!

Anybody out there who could help?

Thx so much in advance!

Best,

Baronchelli from Switzerland

Are you using? http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 If that doesn't work, and you have more than enough disk space (at least 15% is free), what 10.6 installer disc did you use? If it is one older than shipped with your Mac, that could explain it. If it is one that came with another Mac, that could also explain it. Neither disc should work 100% with your Mac unless it is the one that came with it, or a retail newer disc as is described on https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2455

My recommendation is this:

1. Try to track down any registration codes you have

2. Clone backup your system at least twice*:

http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html

3. Erase and install 10.6.

4. Install 10.6.3 combo update.

5. Install iLife '11.

6. Install everything else, and reimport your applications from your backup that don't need registration codes as well as your documents.

Thx.

I've already tried to to all the upgrades etc. from 10.6 on to later versions. Nothing worked as I was never ever able to install anything.

Will try your latest tip and get back to the forum either tomorrow or later on.

Anyway - thank you so much for helping me in this. Actually not sure whether I have enough skills to follow your latest tip, but I will try. Since I am backing up my system almost every hour (...) I will at least get all my stuff back in case i fail.

Again, thx and a presto
