MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-898

I can`t burn DVDs on my MacBook Pro 15 inch Mid-2010

Always I try it I get a message of error.

I already tried use different brands of midia and different velocities too.

The Superdriver is the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-898

I have been heard about errors like this with another users, but I didnt find a solution yet.

Somebody has an idea that how can I fix this?

The problem wasnt solved resetting the SMC 😟

I posted here screenshots of error using the standard record method and the Toast 11. How I can see, the trouble is about empty media. The system says my empty DVD is full.

Then it may very well be that the drive is damaged. The error message is from the drive.

Try an external drive in the same configuration; if it works, then the int'l drive is damaged and has to be replaced.

Alternatively, check if you have installed any software which might interfere with the drive at low level. You may try

which can help to determine if it's a software issue. However, my expectation is that the drive is damaged.

What MBP, and what UJ-898 firmware have you got? I was under the impression the +R media was supported in all MBPs since the first one. See specs here

Hi Davi;

I would venture to guess that you are, like me, trying to use DVD +R burnable media.

The Matshita UJ-898 in my MBP says that it can write:

CD-Write: -R, -RW

DVD-Write: -R, -RW

This tells me that it won't work with DVD +R media.

A pity, I thought those days were past.

Also a bummer because I have mostly DVD +R media around here.

Here is some info about DVD +R and DVD -R if you are interested.

I found a DVD -R (made by Office Depot) and it works fine, I'm burning a .dmg now.

Best Wishes,

Mark

BTW & FWIW, latest round of 15" MBPs come with:

MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-8A8:

Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)

Cache: 1024 KB

Bad news!

Yesterday my SuperDrive "ate" the disk and made strange noises.

I cant understand how the Apple use this cheap and stupid optical in their products. It don't any sense on products so expensive like that.
