Restoring voicemail from lost iTunes back up

Recently I had to bring my phone in for repairs. Prior to doing this I created a back up which I confirmed existed. Upon receiving the phone back I attempted to do a restore but iTunes somehow deleted the restore point. Now I don't need the entire back up back, but I do have some voicemails I want that are stored somewhere on the computer. I was wondering if there is a way to retrieve these voicemails and add them to my phone?

Fair enough. Was wondering if you can explain to me why when I upgrade to OS 5 I lost several voicemails. However, when I restored from a back up prior to the upgrade these voicemails came back. To me that would suggest that the voicemails are also being stored on through iTunes. Also, with my voicemail I'm able to access voicemails already received even if the phone is in airplane mode with no ability access my wireless network. I don't know much, but seems to me it would be just data like a voice memo.

It's possible that the provider stopped doing this. Sometimes you need to find a key sequence to active the voicemail to 'download' to the iPhone (they will backup once on the actual iPhone. You may use the iPhone Backup Extractor tool, if you do have a locally created backup, to check for voicemails. Usually, they are saved as .m4a format. If you can't find your voicemails at all, I would suggest that it would be best to ask your service provider about any 'extra' procedures that may be needed so that your voicemails could be saved onto your backups. I know in the US and Canada that voice-mails don't seem to be as straight forward.

I lost my voicemail upon changing service plans and switching phones. Had never happened before, but this time it completely erased all voicemails and my custom greeting. I was able to find my voicemails located within my backups - so they do get saved. I can click on each one and listen to it - and most of my backups had them (but not all for some reason). I used a free software program (iExplorer) to view my backups -- voicemails, messages, notes, calendar, etc. The only thing I was unable to find was my custom greeting.
