4.0.3 bug?

I often need to send files to Compressor directly from FCP X so that I can compress them using a QuickCluster.

Under 4.0.2 I had no problems (well... few problems). But under 4.0.3 the option to use my QuickCluster isn't there. It's there if I manually drag a file into the Compressor Batch window, rather than sending it from FCP X. And I still have the option to compress my FCP X file using "This Computer". But I can't use the QuickCluster: the option just isn't there in the pop-up menu when I submit the batch.

So I've re-installed 4.0.2, which works properly.

Anyone like to comment?

I created a Managed Cluster. However, this new Managed Cluster does not show as a rendering option on the Advanced tab in FCP X (where I used to select "this computer plus"). Nor does this new Managed Cluster show in Compressor when I submit the job (under the Cluster drop-down box). It still only show the option "This Computer". The only difference I see after creating the Managed Cluster is that my new Managed Cluster shows on the left pane of Share Monitor. I just can't submit any jobs to this Cluster.

This is becoming frustrating. I really think there is a Compressor 4.0.3 bug !!

Any suggestions?

Thanks !!

Trying to replicate your issues, I tested various scenarios, and sure enough… sharing became inoperable. Spent the next hour trying all the things that worked for me the first time. Nothing good came from that …then added Compressor Repair, and still nothing. Finally got it working again after cycling to and from Qmaster Sharing.

It certainly reacts differently than 3.5.

Charley, What OS are you running and have you re-located the FSC apps to a folder? And did you follow Apple's recommended install practices. (I'm running out of ideas and wondering whether there is some sort of conflict between the stand-alone and integrated versions of Qmaster.)

Also, people experiencing difficulties are hopefully providing Apple feedback.

Hey Russ -

Glad to see you were able to "break" Sharing, also. (i.e. I'm not crazy!)

I'm running Mac OS X v 10.7.3 on a 2.66 GHz Core i7, 8 GB, Macbook Pro. I have not tried relocating the Apps. I think I followed their install recommendations. Maybe I need to remove the entire suite, and start over. I'll also provide Apple feedback, as you suggested.

Thanks, and let me know if you think of anything else...

Thanks, James! That explains why it's no longer working for me from FCP X! Is removing "this computer plus" from FCP a "bug", or did they decide to remove this feature by design?? Did you find this documented somewhere?

I guess I'll go learn more about Compressor now! Too bad they took this feature out of the latest FCP X...

Thanks for the info!!

Hey Russ -

Here's what I'm discovering. Clusters are not working from FCP X v10.0.4. Not from Share/Use Compressor Settings, nor from Share/Send to Compressor. There is no longer a "This Computer Plus" option in FCP, nor in Compressor (when using Share/Send to Compressor from FCP). I REALLY do think this is a bug/issue.

What does work is going directly into Compressor 4.0.3. Doing this, gives me back the "This Computer Plus" checkbox when submitting! And, after submitting, the Quick Cluster Controller does farm out the job across the different computers in my Cluster. I verified this in Share Monitor.

I do not believe this is a "feature", by design. There has to be some issue. I can't come up with a viable workflow if this is how it's supposed to work (i.e. no interoperability between FCP and Compressor).

James / Russ - What are your experiences / thoughts on this??

Yep. That was what the original post was all about!

I'm suspicious, though, that the "This Computer Plus" tickbox is no longer there in Compressor 4.0.3 when submitting files from FCP X. Since the options are missing both from FCP X and Compressor 4.0.3 it strikes me that it's more likely to be deliberate than a bug.

Though for what purpose, heaven only knows. The main reason for me buying Compressor was to submit FCP jobs directly to a Cluster.
