I have an external HD, from an old 15" PB, connected via USB to my G5 (2.3). How can I access it thru the terminal? When I issue an ls command for items on the desktop, the HD doesn't appear, although it does appear as an icon on the desktop. I'd like to retrieve some files on there that are .Trash.

Easiest way is to type the command cd followed by a space, then drag the icon for the external onto the Terminal window, then hit the return key. You can also find the path using the mount command and enter that after cd. Then you should be able to navigate to the .Trash folder and do any copying or moving you need to do.
Hi good day, I got to this tread, searching for a soution to access a old disk,
Yresterday I was able to conect to it via usb-sats adapter, bu before that I was able to access using a thunderbolt dock of two bays.
NowI copied some files, but it stop working. I plug it and says can be initialized, but I see it as "Media" at disk utility. I plugged tester

I've been fumbling around for an hour trying to locate them in the terminal. I should've came here first.
Thanks old comm guy - I did it the hard way: changed to Volumes directory, found the drive, issued an mv command to the files I needed onto the desktop.
I tried this and it worked perfectly! Thanks!
