APN and MMS Settings

Hello,

I recently had my Iphone 3gs legitimately unlocked by my carrier because I met their contracted requirements. Per the following support document a truly unlocked Iphone should have customizable settings located atSettings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network. However, when I go to this place on my Iphone, I only have an option to turn Cellular Data on or off. How to get that setting to be editable?

Not all carriers support editing APN settings, and if the carrier you're using doesn't support such, the ability to edit these settings won't appear. You can try the iPhone Configuration Utility:

Ok so the ability to change those settings as http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2283 shows is determined by the carriers SIM card that I have in my phone. If I have a SIM of a carrier that will allow these settings to be changed then the option will be there, correct? I am making this assumption because if my phone is truly unlocked then all unlocked iPhones should operate identical with the exeption of the carriers SIM that is inserted. Otherwise the phone isn't truly unlocked. Only the voice portion of the phone has unlocked but all all other features are still locked to specified carrier.

Am I understanding you correctly?
