That's what you get when you click Open Archive. Do the next step. Select CAM_MEM and click Open. The application doesn't know you're media is in something called CAM_MEM.
NO. NO. NO.
I told you to select CAM_MEM.
Do NOT, repeat NOT, go inside the folder structure of the memory card. Simply select the root level. Click on CAM_MEM and click Open.
As in the great movie: Cool Hand Luke: "What we have here is a failure to communicate"
The only time I can see Cam_Mem is when I chose Archive. Then I see AVCHD and DCIM. Nothing else happens. There is no "OK" button to select. When I choose AVCHD to open I get the error message.
I really appreciate your trying to help solve my problem, which is reallly not a problem since I don't mind using ClipWrap, I think I will stop worrying about this. I have lots more problems trying deal with all the learning I have to do before I am comfortable with FCP X. Perhaps I should get your book as I am familiar with your style of instruction as I learned FCX from your book FCX 2.
In closing I noticed that Ian said that FCP would convert to Prores as the optimum codec for editing and that's what I do in ClipWrap.
Thanks again.

Did you rename this CAM_MEM BTW, or is that what the camera calls it?
In this instance my memory card is called NO_NAME, which is it's camera format name.
I select the card in the sidebar and click Open in the lower right.
Have you shot different formats or types of media on the same card? Or used the card in different cameras?
Try shooting a new shots on a new, camera formatted card and see if it works.
The camera has an additional built in memory of 32GB.
I believe that if he was using an SDHC card he would see CAM_SD but as he is using the internal memory, it is CAM_MEM.
My similar camera only takes cards so all I see is CAM_SD.
I don't have a card I only use the internal memory of 32 GB. Yes I have taken still photographs and they will import into FCP, but FCP says the mts video files are not compatible. I'm perfectly happy to continue to use ClipWrap.
Thanks very much for your help, I really appreciate your taking time on my problem.

Ian, I want to thank you also for trying to find a solution to my file incopatibility. I've followed your input to the Apple Discussions forum over the years and I have used your advice on quite a few issues. Keep up the good work!

Don't give up!
There is a solution to this. Let's push a bit further.
If you have shot 1080/60p the clips will not be recognised unless you have updated to FCP X 10.0.4
Were they 1080/60p ?
If not then take a look in the operating manual on Page 146 for using a Mac and Page 156 for troubleshooting recognition problems.
Note that on p.146 it says you need OS X 10.7.2 onwards.
Hold your horses!
I'm getting confused again.
I have just realised that it's the OP who has a Panasonic X900, not you.
Is yours a TM700 ?
If that's so I think it uses a hard drive (not flash memory) together with an SD card.
I have a friend with that camera who uses FCP X.
Unfortunately when I phoned her a few minutes ago nobody answered, so I will try again later.
Still can't contact her so try this:-
Connect your camera and switch on so that your CAM_MEM appears on the Desktop.
Create a folder (on the desktop) and give it any name you wish.
Open CAM_MEM and drag everything into your new folder and wait a few minutes for it to be copied.
Open FCP X and select File>Import from Camera.
When the window opens, click Open Archive at the bottom.
Navigate to the folder you created, select it and click Open.
The name of the folder should appear top left under CAMERAS and after a few moments your clips should appear.
Assuming they do, you can then import them . . . . fingers crossed!
Ian, Now I know how an English Bulldog got its reputation: it never gives up!
I am running FCP X 10.0.4
I set my camera to 1080 60p
I am running Lion, version 10.7.3
I tried your suggestion, although Cam_Mem does not show up on the Desktop when running Lion, it shows up in the Sidebar of Finder, and still no-go.
If you finally get to talk to your friend with the Panasonic HDC TM700, or equivalent European model, let me know his experience.
It is so easy and fast to use ClipWrap I'm a happy camper.

I just tried again and she's out . . . . maybe on a world cruise. 😝
Why are you shooting 60p ?
I will only ever use it for slo-mo effects and find that the HA setting gives the best results and the easiest editing for normal videos.
I went for the highest resolution. It only shoots in 1080 60p or 1080 60i and I wanted the progressive. I don't shoot long videos so file size is not a problem so far.
