MacBook Pro: Electrical "Hissing" sound

I am not sure if there is a fix for that model, keep an eye out on http://www.appledefects.com/ thats where I learned about the 1.83 replacment board. They may have something on there now or later that could help. Good luck.

p.s. now my hard drive is making more noise always sounds like it is seeking. Wasn't doing this a few weeks ago. : (

Does anyone know what week the new Logic Boards are shipping in? I am awaiting a replacement after many problems, one which was fixed (whine) by replacing the MLB, and I'm worried that the replacement will have the whine. Thanks.

I spoke to an apple repair guy here in Sweden.
He says he is aware of the problem, and the new logic boards fix it.
He also said they have to order them for each computer since it is only the 'brand new ones' that fix it.
Apparently they can only order me one once I have handed in my computer, and then I have to wait ten working days.

I'm going to rather keep the mirror widget on my dashboard than go two weeks without being able to work.

Are they now saying that the new board completely eliminates the whine/hiss or that it just reduces it.

I was told the latter a week ago so I sent the MBP back and got a refund.

I'm going to wait a couple of weeks to see what happens - rumours abound of a MBP revision...

They are saying that it reduces it, but some people who have had their MBP's back are saying that is has gone completely. I think it varies from machine to machine.

Incidently, mine is waiting to be picked up today to have the new logic board fitted so I'll report back next week with an update, I hope.

If you launch the Mirror widget, close it, then Sleep and rewake the MBP the hiss will be gone until you access the cam again, or Deep Sleep/Hibernate. It's not an elligant solution, but it uses less power and less resources, at least.

The local Apple retailer/service center did an excellent job swapping the logic board and eliminating the hiss/buzz on my week 13 MacBook Pro 15.4" laptop... ah er... I mean notebook. It's now silent (aside from typical drive sounds) and it appears the tech put it back together correctly.

Because it's still hot, he might have used the ridiculous amount of thermal paste perscribe by Apple in their service manual but, otherwise, it looks like he did a fine job.

Turn around was one day. Dropped it off at 8:30 Wednesday AM. They overnighted the part and I had it in my hands by 4:00 the next day. Sometimes there's a lot to be said for buying locally.

And I still got it for only $1699 on sale, no rebate...
$1645 possible via rebate through most of the major online/catalog resellers...

Oh! They included the necessary 10.4.6 install discs without asking (thought the local dealer might 'forget' to give them to me).

Does the sound go away if you open PhotoBooth?

My MacBook doesn't make the noise that you are describing then. I get no change with my second CPU on or off and the only noise I hear is either from the fan or it goes away when I start photobooth.

Who did you e-mail? I'm having the same issues, please let me know.
