Is using Flashbackcheck.com safe?

I went to the website(www.flashbackcheck.com) and received this message, "We have checked the version of Java installed on your computer and discovered that you are running a vulnerable version. You should update as soon as possible.

We suggest that you use the Mac OS X automatic software update feature."

Should I follow this instruction? I included my UUID for a diagnosis, is my computer safe?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

And of what use do they think a serial number is?

This has been debated in several places but I think the basic concern is about ownership issues. For instance, Apple uses serial numbers to verify Applecare eligibility. There are also some scams that rely in part on knowledge of serial numbers, like fraudulent insurance claims.

In general, it isn't a good idea to post any personal info on a public site. It isn't so much any one thing but the combination of several that data mining techniques can link together from several different sources.
