I was going to post a similar problem. I went today at a friend who has a focusrite saffire usb 6 sound card. since he had no cables lying around I decided to install his sound card to play some music from my mbp. after that all **** broke loose. everytime I restarted my system after a couple seconds of working fine it would show this weird screen, part black, part rgb screwed up, hard to read, blurry and full or misplaced colors. like an old vhs tape reading error.

First I tried to delete all the files that were installed. Did that (very hard task when you see half of screen in weird colors), rebooted, still same problem. rebooted in safe mode, checked again for files, deleted some more, rebooted same problem. again in safe mode, repair disk permissions, verify disk, reboot in normal still same problem. Reset PRAM (I think I did, it was on mute so no sound), rebooted same problem. As far as I can tell, the problem was a certain processes being triggered that gave an error (incomplete driver install or misbehaving/incompatibility).

Finally I gave up shut it down and went home. Upon turning it on at home, it's been up for 2 hours and not a single problem. I'm, still search online for a decent answer since I'm paranoid this problem could not be solved. I deleted some more serato and other crap Scratch and Itch installed. I also checked system log and searched and found this:

Jun 28 17:09:54 Victor-Stans-MacBook-Pro com.apple.kextd[10]: Can't load /System/Library/Extensions/FocusriteUSBAudio.kext - no code for running kernel's architecture.

Jun 28 17:09:54 Victor-Stans-MacBook-Pro com.apple.kextd[10]: Load com.focusrite.driver.usb.audio failed; removing personalities from kernel.

Jun 28 18:11:19 Victor-Stans-MacBook-Pro Installer[250]: Package /Volumes/untitled/Saffire 6 USB.mpkg uses a deprecated pre-10.2 format (or uses a newer format but is invalid).

Now I am kindly asking you, is there a way to send someone a paste of my system log to see if the problem might also be elsewhere?

Should I do a complete reinstall of my system? If I do this, can I backup my current one with time machine and safely restore it? Is there a way to reset all processes and kernels to default state? If I make a fresh new user and move my data over and delete the current one, will this be solved? Any advice where in Console to search for more possible errors?

Thank you very much!

Also please excuse me for double posting, but I tryed to search for all the files I had to delete using spotlight/finder and it yelded no results? Do you guys know of a way/app to search EVERYTHING on the HDD? Not just documents and media, I mean in locations like the library or system? Thanks again!

Yeah I know very frustrating. Finally I made it work. Just reboot in safe mode (hold shift when booting untill you see a progress bar). And search for any instance of Saffire or Focusrite in your root library folder and your user one. You'll need to check a lot of folders so don't give up. This is good starting point: http://www.focusrite.com/answerbase/en/article.php?id=1110 just follow those tips and work around them.

Also if you have installed in the past any other software such as Itch or Scratch both from Serato, you might want to remove those files also. There are plenty or kext and plugins and other crap that those programs leave behind. I can't remember how they were called, but you'll know when you see them, something that contains Numark, Serato, XONE, Novation (if you got that also).

One final step I had to take was to launch the Audio MIDI Setup app from Utilities folder and remove everything besides the basic IAC Driver. (remember to go to window and select Show Midi Window because it's hidden by default.)

This has been a lesson for me and will no longer install aything from Serato on my Mac. This is because even using AppDele or a similar uninstall program for OSX, there will be a ton of plugins and processes left behind that continue to run in background and cannot be removed by anyone.

I wonder if I had to install the Saffire now, would it still misbehave?
