I have a MacBook Pro and an iPad 2 and have made several templates in Pages on my MacBook and now want those to be on my iPad, but it says the file format is not supported. Is there any chance this will be coming to the iCloud or is it a pipedream? It's really useless for me to have Pages now because I need the templates for school and work and it ends up making more work for me that I cannot just use
iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iOS 5.1
Pages for iOS is a different beast with not much support/documentation.
Have a look in the iTunes Store there a few books on the subject one of those may throw light on how the iOS version works/does not work with Templates.

On my MacBook Pro I am using Pages '09 v. 4.1
On my iPad I am using Pages v1.6

Bump. Now that iCloud syncing is a little more developed in ML, is this something that has been implemented?
Create the Template. Go to: File > Save as Template. Select iCloud from the drop down menu. Click Save.

I have version 5 of pages and am using Yosemite. I don't see the option of saving my templates to iCloud which I really need to do. Any suggestions?
In the latest versions of OS X, things are a bit different. It can still be done though!
To save a template from Pages in OS X to your iCloud, go to the dialog to save a template with `File` > `Save as Template...`
Now, click `Save...` and you will get a file-dialog window. Navigate to your iCloud folder of choice and save the file!
