The iPad volume control doesn't work. I hit the Home button twice to show the Multitask bar and the volume control is missing from the Volume Control button.

As i say, the iPad volume control doesn't work. I hit the Home button twice to show the Multitask bar and the volume control is missing from the Volume Control button. Volume control bar also missing in some apps like youtube..... and i have already checked mute and that is have being set in unmute for sure, and in setting->sounds you also can play the notifcation sound when you choose different tone, so speark should be also ok.

After that i have try it with headphones, that works.

i try both reboot and reset my ipad to factory setting, but it still not working....

it's a ipad 2 with 5.1 ios

Anyone have any idea about it?

Solved.

An earlier post highlighted that the ipad thinks there's something connected to the dock. Upon inspect I realised my dock had taken a slight ding and was ever sol slightly misshaped. I pushed my charger cable in the dock and using it as a lever, to the push out the bend. My volume control came back to life instantly.

I just had this exact issue and I plugged the adapter back in and the controls were back!

Just in case anyone still experiences the volume problem where the charger being plugged in won't play sound, try slightly disconnecting the charger. I figured this out while trying to fast connect/disconnect the two (the headphones and charger). I realized that when i pushed the charger all the way in it recognized the volume but then disappeared, so i tried that solution and problem solved!

Well I had the same issue, but it just so happens, that this will work 10% of the time. Turn your ipad Completely Off, then turn it back on. Doing this like 3 times will get it working again. While its a annoying bug in IOS 5.
