I recently bought my son a new IPOD and he has registered is and SYNC'ed it up with ITUNES. I want to re-register his old IPOD nano with my account but I do not want to mess up his account/new IPOD. I plan to wipe out this old IPOD I am re-registering and start out new. How do I do this?

the iPods have nothing to do with one another; wiping and re-setting up the nano will have no bearing on the new one.
Connect the nano to your iTunes account. iTunes will recognize it is set up to a different account, and ask if you want to wipe the data on it and set it up as a new device on your account. that's exactly what you want to do.
