I have an old pair of Gigaware Speakers that I'd like to connect to my macbook pro, but they aren't listed in system preferences > audio > outputs. I've tried everything I can think of to no avail. Would someone be able to lend a hand? I'm looking forward to responses. Thank you!

If you're connecting them to the headphone socket using a mini-jack then select 'headphones' from the list of output devices.

The microphone is an input, not an output connector, Macs have no RCA connectors so I assume you mean the RCA on the speakers?

Do the speakers have their own volume control? If so, turn the volume down on the Mac as it may be overloading the speaker input, and turn the volume up using the speakers' own volume control.

"8W 2.1 Multimedia Speakers". 2.0 will do as well, since I'm not planning to use the sub-woofer.
