Q: I am so sick of entering my password for iCloud email.

I have tried everything including deleting the icloud account on mail and re-creating it. There times when that password prompt pops up over and over.

Please fix this apple! Its annoying!  Not only that it does it with mail we have setup on our OSX Lion Server as well.

Thank you!

    Amen.

It is seriously broken.  Going to disable it and move on with my life.

Im considering the same. About to ditch Lion server or downgrade to version where it worked.

What other alternatives do we have to icloud .me email?  Im not too fond of google mail either.

Found another thread about the same issue.

Just tried following the instructions given there to "manually" add the "iCloud" account and not allow the system to automatically configure Mail by using the checkmark option in the iCloud preferences in the System Preferences app.

    Follow the instrucations here:

    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmail.html

Also refer to this Apple site for specifics as to what ports, server names to use as well.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864

Just did it on my Lion Server Mac and so far not seeing the issue happen again and now seeing the proper "imap.mail.me.com and smtp.mail.me.com" server names in the Mail configuration settings and not the weird "pX-mail.me.com" versions.

Also, you can run "Connection Doctor" under "Window" menu item in Mail to verify if there is a connection issue.

    Good luck.

    Carlos.

Thanks for the links, but they don't seem to apply to Lion. The IMAP address is not editable in Mail under Lion (at least for me).

I may try deleting the account and recreating, maybe something went wrong when I switched to the cloud.

Carlos's solution solved my issue. I was not faced with that annoying popup again the following day when Im usually bombarded with them.

    Thanks!

My suspicion is that your problem has been resolved (if indeed it has) as a result of deleting and re-adding your account, rather than following instructions for adding an account under Snow Leopard.

I manually configured my iCloud account in Mail, but the issue persists as it does on my iPhone 4S. Every single day, every couple of minutes I get the message to enter the password. I have no problem logging into iCloud website. What is going on?

Started having problems again this morning and so I tried manually setting up like stated and it initially started to pull down mail.  Now I just get a spinning wheel and the offline symbol.  Nice.

The problem has seized for me since I re-set it up manually. Whats the mail server that you have configured?

I had it set to imap.mail.me.com and smtp.mail.me.com.  After that was failing I tried setting up automatically and that hung twice and then finally was able to connect.  I think their having issues, but they aren't listed on the status page.

Uhm it is possible you might be doing something else wrong.  Have you tried resetting your password at icloud.com and then trying the manual setup again? Also usernames for icloud do not need full email address like a lot of other email services.

Lastly - do you have a Apple store nearby? You might want to consider setting up a time to see the genius bar to save you from wasting more time trying to sort out this problem.  My philosophy is if you've spent over an hour getting nowwhere then seek help.

While I appreciate the help and the suggestions, I'm far from a newbie with Macs or computers in general.  If you read my post you would see that when I set it up manually it downloaded all my mail initially which means it was setup properly.  Then when it went to check mail again it froze and went offline.  The problems that I'm having are the same that others are having and it has nothing to do with my setup per se.  Something isn't working right on Apple's side otherwise it wouldn't work one day, fail the next, work again, etc.
