How do you install Macromedia Flash player on new IMAC G5 duo core??

I have been trying to install Macromedia Flashplayer 8 on my new IMAC OSX 10.4.5.

I see that many people have problems with this (missing plug ins, formation of a recurring loop using Safari). I have also seen multiple links as to how to resolve this issue (e.g. Pacifist shareware etc..), which seem very varied and assume a lot of knowledge in the first place...
I am truely a beginner with Mac (this is the first time I have owned a Mac) and I have tried to follow some of the suggestions but I soon get stuck because I simply do not understand the language...
For instance, I can not even find the Mac Install disc !
Can anyone kindly post here for beginners like me a step by step 'idiots' guide of how to get Flash player installed and working...

Many thanks in advance...
Olivier

Hey Matt

take a look at System Preferences - Quicktime - Advanced - Mime Settings

Find the Miscellaneous section & click the arrow next to it.

Is the Flash Media box checked? - If it is, uncheck it. Then exit sys prefs, restart safari & try again.

I presume you're running safari in normal mode - not using Rosetta?

you've tried the 'preview' Flash update - from http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=2dda3d81 ? follow their instructions - it's really easy.

Let me know how you get on - I don't have an intel mac, but I'd be interested to know. ( I've been here since December; you'd think Apple would at least have sent me one to play with?? </joke>
