Atrocious ad blocker

I use Safari V5.1.7. "Block cookies" is set to block cookies "From third partyies and advertisers". Safari does an atrocious job blocking blocking advertising cookies. Even after I clear all the cookies, after visits to just a few websites I can count 2 or 3 dozen tracking and advertising cookies. Is there some sort of blocking plug-in that actually works? Clearly AdBlock is beyond useless. I am assuming Apple, Inc is getting well paid by advertisers, Google, and the like, to fool users and allow tracking and advertising SW to be installed.

Linc, CocoaCookies seems to work under OS X 10.8.2. However, it doesn't seem to report all the cookies set by a website. For example, right now there are cookies from facebook, janrain, etc. I've never been on facebook, yet there is a cookie from it. And CC doesn't report those. Any idea how that happens?

How does one make a cookie secure in CC?

Thank you
