Apps won't download on my iOS devices.

I have a 3rd generation iPad and an iPhone 4, both of which are encountering problems downloading apps from the app store.

I first noticed the problem about 5 days ago, whenever i attempt to download an app or an update to an app it just stops at "waiting" on the home screen. I am unable to pause/resume the app status, as when i tap on it nothing happens.

if i leave the app for about 5-10 minutes i get a warning pop up along the lines of "could not connect to the iTunes store"...my wifi is connected fine and i have tried it on other peoples wifi and still have the same problem.

I have tried resetting the iPad and iPhone and that doesn't fix it either.

I even went to the extend of wiping the iPad completely and restoring from iCloud and that didn't fix it, I tried then restoring as a completely new iPad and that didn't fix it either.

I was beginning to think that it must be an issue with my apple ID, however it still lets me sign in ok and when i plug my iPad into my MacBook Pro and open iTunes I am able to install the apps via that method.

To be clear, it is installing or updating apps on my iOS devices themselves that refuses to work.

I hope you can advise a solution as I am becoming increasingly frustrated with my lack of progress on what seems such a ridiculous issue as downloading apps is one of the more basic functions of an iOS device.

Seems to be a lot of folk with the problem tonight. I was forced to input security questions 2 days back. Tonight, I've not had luck with my iphone, ipad, or computer. I can't update applications, can't download purchased music. I've changed credit cards, logged in and out of the store, rebooted soft, rebooted hard, checked the DNS server of the router, and tried using 3G alone. Nothing lets the applications download. The waiting bar just sits there for minutes until the machine times off. Shutting down and starting up causes it to say "Error, can't purchase YYYYY at this time." On my computer, I get a dropped interenet connection error.

I had downloaded an update Friday morning, without issue. I came across the issue Friday night as I attempted to purchase a game. Sometime after midnight I tried again, and at that point I was prompted to create security questions. Once I did that, the game downloaded without issue.

Hope nobody else is experiencing these issues.

Most common cause (which is very prevelant - sad Apple won't address this themselves... love customer service from the all mighty Apple...) is that there are downloads stuck and all other apps (whether new or updates) are waiting for those to download before the new ones will, hence the "waiting" status.

You can either:

1. Update apps on your laptop and then sync (defeats the purpose of the cloud)

2. on you iphone/ipad go to itunes app, click on "more" then "downloads" and there are most likely itunes downloads there that got stuck and need to be deleted. Swipe to delete.

2a. For good measure, click on itunes app, music, then scroll to bottom and sign out of itunes account then sign back in.

This should solve most of these "waiting" problems.

Can't wait for Apple to send me a check for solving a huge customer service issue...

Same hear, just bought this new iPad 3 for my dad, downloaded apps fine yesterday but not today. Been reading around for a solution for hours and no luck. Only thing different I did was update the iPad as apple sent a notification to do it. Every time I hit download on an app, icon appears but just says waiting and never downloads. Was my job to set this iPad 3 up and send it away to dad. But cant do this now, how annoying, had it 2 days!

I have had the same issue described here. and I tried what @Gogism did and it worked for me! Man that's rediculious!

I had two podcasts waiting to be downloaded (stuck) in my itunes app, So, I delete both of them and presto! my app store updates started working! I have a suspicon that the new Podcast App that got released this Tuesday (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/podcasts/id525463029?mt=8) had alot to do with why I had issues downloading my podcasts (which I first attempted to download somewhere around Tuesday the 26th 😕)... hence why I had issues downloading apps from the app store. Apple really should send you a check @Gogism THANK YOU! 😉

I HAVE THE ANSWER YOU ARE LOOKING FOR I THINK!!!

ios only wants to download one thing at a time and if something gets stuck and you forget about it- oops. your screwed.

I did EVERYTHING, including a reset all settings that required a hookup and restore from my imac...anyway,

what it was- I HAD AN OLD PODCAST I TRIED TO DOWNLOAD THAT DIDNT DOWNLOAD. tHIS SAT THERE FOR A FEW DAYS AND I FORGOT. WHEN I TRIED TO DOWNLOAD AN APP, IT WAS STUCK.

IT WAS FIXED INSTANTLY WHEN I SWIPED TO DELTE THAT STUCK PODCAST IN THE :ITUNES: APP.

Good luck. I hope this helps. I never had an apple problem this frustrating. On my hp laptop-once a week lol.

Apps won't download on my iOS devices.
