Using Apple TV with Bose Lifestyle 48

I have read all comments here and have tried both to connect like this:

1. HDMI from Apple TV to my LG plasma TV

2. Optical cable from ATV to Bose optical in

3. Bose set up with optical to AUX

Result 0 :-(

Have also tried:

1. HDMI from Apple TV to LG plasma TV

2. Optical cable from LG tv to Bose optical in

3. Bose set up tried cbl sat + tv + aux

The Apple TV works fine with the LG tv both on sound and picture and I get access to all my stuff on Itunes. The problem is of course that I would prefer to get the sound out through my Bose system as I normally can just watching TV, but the sound from the ATV cannot connect.

I know this has been discussed a lot but none of the suggestions work in my situation. Do we have somebody who can troubleshot this? I would really appreciate some assistance here. Thanks.
