Unable to access web based router interface ASUS WL-330N3G

I have connected it direct via Ethernet to my Macbook Pro and powered it with both USB plugs as stated in the user guide of ASUS. In the settings>networks it shows the Ethernet as connected with a green light:

- in DHCP mode

- IP adress 169.254.93.69

- Subnetmask 255.255.0.0

- all other information is blanked out.

The thing is, I've connected the ASUS the same way, without any setting changes to my mum's old windows vista computer, opend up internet explorer and could get to the web based router interface with 192.168.1.1 without any problems. It also worked on my Dad's Windows 7 machine.

Reconnected to my Mac it won't work again. I changed the settings in "networks" to manual:

- manual

- IP adress 192.168.1.2 (I tried a few up to .34)

- Subnetmask 255.255.255.0

- Router 192.168.1.1

Still no success. So I downloaded Opera and Firefox and again tried all settings I did with Safari and it still won't work.

Next thing I tried was with Parallels. I use Windows XP and 7 on it and still can't access the router interface like I could on a real Windows computer.

I am running out of ideas now... ;-)

Now I tried all available modes: I configured them on a Windows machine, brought it back to my MBP and tried it again. No success.

The funny thing about my spent hours is, that I finally got a good workaround:

In any mode, the router should be accessible via WLAN and 192.168.1.1. As there is no factory WLAN password set, any device can lock on without problems (also the MBP except it can not show the webbased interface, which is my problem). By accident my iPad signed in to the not yet locked ASUS Wlan. So when I wanted to look something completely different up, the ASUS login page for the web based user interface popped up! Finally I could configure the ASUS with the Pad and WLAN without difficulties! :-D The ASUS only needs to be powered. There is no need to plug it in on any Ethernet port anywhere.

Important hint:

When you go to the settings page on the iPad and connect to the ASUS, the loginpage popping up is quite useless as (must be a bug) you cannot type in the fields. The keyboard keeps going away before you can type what you want. I solved this by telling the pad just to log on and not signin in. (You can do this by switching on and of the "automatically connect" and "automatically sign in" buttons on the same setting page where you can set manual IP adresses and so on. You can reach this page, when you go to settings>wlan and then you hit the small blue ball next to the ASUS Wireless Name.) Then you will be connected to the ASUS but the automatic loginscreen wont come up. Once connected, go to safari on the pad and type 192.168.1.1 into the adressline. now a small login window pops up. use this one to log in and you can change now all settings as you wish.

After all done I still cant access the interface of the ASUS from the MBP. I think I do not have enough knowledge to get this straightened out... Maybe a more experienced user had the same issue and can post the solution for Macs here.
