Connecting MacBook Pro (late 2011) with dell e2211h

I am trying to connect MacBook Pro (late 2011) with the external monitor dell e2211h. I am using an adaptor 'DisplayPort to VGA. I connected to both side but this sees like not working with the Mac. I have tried the same external monitor with Lenovo Laptop (windows) it works perfect fine.

Does anyone can help or any advice to solve this problem? is it a what I am trying to use a wrong adapter.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), 2.4 GHz (Late 2011)

Is it a Mini Displayport to VGA adapter? And is it may by Apple. I try one of the RockFish (I think that is the name brand) adapter and it didn't work at all. Took it back and got an Apple and it worked.

yes it is mini displayport, bought it from Matalan ( a retail shop in uk)

when I put them on MacBook screen goes blue then after 2-3 second it goes back to normal as not sending any signal to the monitor

Open Sys Prefs and then displays and Click the button at the bottom right "Detect Dispplays". See if that get the Mac to see the Dell monitor.

EDIT:

Apple still hasn't figured out how to properly connect an external monitor to their notebooks. This is an ongoing struggle and you are not alone.

I did but nothing happended,

well, according to the description of this adapter, this should work but not sure why its causing an issue.

I have found this post (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2667187 ) but I can't find this option.

Try leaving the monitor connected and Reboot the system. Just a thought.

Does it have front panel option button to select the input source? And is it set to VGA.

NOTE:

Using VGA you may not be able to get the full 1920x1080 resolution. Not sure I only use DVI or HDMI with LCD monitors.

If the screen flashes, it is beginning to sense that the display is there.

The Mini Displayport connector must be pushed into the socket until essentially ALL of the metal end disappears.

About This Mac > ( More info ) > Graphics and Displays ...

... must list the new display by Make&Model or it will not work automatically.
