Green light, but will not connect to Internet

Set up the router easily, solid green light. Airport Utility says Airport is green, but Internet connection is "disconnected"

AirPort Extreme 802.11n (5th Gen), Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Bob

It is an Arris Touchstone TM402G cable modem. Time Warner Cable is my ISP.

I tried to reset using the reset button in the back.

I just unplugged everything, removed the battery from the modem for 5 minutes, then powered back up the modem, then the Airport wireless router.

On my computer, the Airport Utility shows green. The "Internet" button is orange. When I click on that button, the first line reads "connection Disconnected" followed by what looks like a appropriate router address, DNS servers and domain name

Thanks for the info.

Despite what your ISP might claim......it often takes some time for the equipment back at the cable company to fully reset and issue a "fresh" IP address. If you don't wait long enough before powering back up, you get the "old" IP address which is not valid.

Try powering off the cable modem at least 30 minutes and power down everything else on the network as well.

After the wait period, power up the modem and let it run for 5 minutes by itself

Power up the AirPort Extreme and let it run for 2-3 minutes

Power up each network device one at a time about a minute apart

Check the network

Hmmm. I'm not familiar with Arris, but the power down / power up sequence works with any cable modem that I've ever used.

If you are:

Connecting to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme

Verified that the Ethernet cable is working correctly

I am running out of ideas

I assume that the Airport Extreme is functioning correctly, but there is no way to verify that. Suggest you give it one last shot before you haul the Extreme in to the Apple Store.

This time, perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme as follows:

Pull the power cable from the back of the AirPort Extreme

Wait a minute

Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in for an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back in to the AirPort Extreme

Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 25-30 seconds for the AirPort to display a slow blinking amber light.

Then do the complete power down and power up in sequence again to see if the modem and AirPort will associate with each other.

If that does not do it, I am stumped. If you find a solution, please let us know.

Hi, all,

Just wanted to say thanks to you all for this discussion. I had the same problem and following Bob's advice (duplicated below) solved it!

Thanks very much!
