I need X11 for 10.6.8. It's nowhere on my mac. Need it to run GIMP. My hard drive got corrupted so the Apple Store wiped my HD and installed 10.6.8 but I don't have a disk and I don't have any optional installation folder in my utilities. Where can I get X11 for Snow Leopard reliably so I can use Gimp? Thanks,

Order the 10.6.3 disk online at Apple, it's on that or go back to the Apple Store and have them install it again.
IMO you should have the disk regardless, but the Apple stores don't sell it anymore, only online.
Learn to make bootable clones, then you can boot your computer and restore it yourself.
no clue how to make bootable clones. i'm clueless. is x11 on LION? maybe i should just upgrade all the way? i have not yet ever successfully burned a DVD even. no clue why not. thanks.
No, stay on 10.6.8, your safe there.
Have the Apple store install X11 for you as it's a optional install, they don't need to erase your files or programs to do it.
Then order the 10.6.3 disk online for safekeeping, as you will need it later.

But if you google X11 you will find it in the first 2 or 3 results, as I said in the other thread.

i downloaded and installed quartz and i'm still getting the gimp error that i need X11. it's weird. do you think re-installing gimp would fix it? thanks.

No, re-installing gimp won't help. I suspect it's a PATH issue with gimp looking for /usr/X11 which doesn't exist. Your best option is to install Apple's X11. I'll post a way to uninstall XQuartz or you can just leave it there (XQuartz can exist with Apple's X11).
I have looked everywhere online for a download for X11. I need to ask Apple Store to do it? I have no clue how to UNinstall any software for mac.
X11 is an option install. The app itself will install into your Utilities folder. But ther are other components to X11 in different parts of the system so no one can just send you a copy.
It believe it would be on your applications install dvd, i.e., on the dvd's that came with your machine. Of course that one'be be for 10.6.8.
