How will pages share docs on iCloud after iWork is discontinued?

Does this mean the money I paid for the pages app was wasted and pages no longer works after July?

Should I stop using pages now and migrate to new sharing solution?

I'm trying to work here. Please tell me if I am wasting my time on pages or if pages will support iCloud sharing after iWork is discontinued.

I don't have time to waste using pages anymore if it is going to be discontinued when iWork is discontinued.

First, the way I understand you should be able to log in and out of iCloud with your Apple ID. If your documents are stored there, when you log out others on the iPad shouldn't have acces to them. So the next thing is to be able to share the documents. When I watched the video introducing Mountain Lion on Apple's site, they said it would have a share button througout the apps. They showed Safari and Messages as examples, but said that other apps would also have the share button. You can share by email, iMessage, Tweeter, and others. That may be your answer for sharing and sending docs to others. You don't need to open up those apps, it just does it from within the app you are using. The iWork apps should have the share button too.

That's really not the answer. To understand what many users require here, have a look at how document sharing is done at Google docs:

Apple's version of this was iwork.com, and there is no evidence they are going to have it in icloud.

I still think you have missed the point a little (not your fault, its a hrad one to explain!)

What we currently do is all have accounts on iWorks.com - saved with out work email addresses.

Now, if I create a quick report in pages, iWorks.com not only syncs my work (iCloud can do this) but if I hit share with iWork, it will send a link (its similar to a dropbox link), to the email addresses of my choice, appearing to originate from my work email address (as this is how I have iWorks.com setup).

The only other way I could see of doing this is to add email accounts (my work email address) to the native mail.app on the iPad, but this is not feasible because the device is shared and there is no way to have seperate sessions or even password protect email accounts on any one device.

*** eh!?

I coedit a monthly newsletter in Pages that goes to almost 500 subscribers nationwide. Using iWork.com, coeditor and I could work on the newsletter together. When it was ready to be mailed, iWork.com enabled converting to .pdf and the doc was emailed out. We both have Lion, iCloud, and numerous Apple devices. The issue is how to use iCloud to edit together across networks, not within our individual devices. Our next newsletter goes out July 1. Help!

No answer to this yet??? No substitute of any kind for iWork.com?

PS. I, of course, meant iWork.com in subject.....

I am a newbie and am still a little confused.

I have an iPad and use the iCloud service. I use Pages, Numbers and Keynote on my iPad, iPhone and Touch. The iCloud service keeps these all in sync. Works great.

I also access these "mobile" documents through icon in iCloud on my desktop browser called iWork. Within iWork on my desktop, I have access to all my iPad Keynote, Pages and Numbers files.

I do not use iWork.com and have no documents stored there. I think I understand correctly that www.iwork.com will no longer be available as a destinct service.

Question: Will the iWork Icon still be there in iCloud for me to use to access my files through my desktop browser? Or is the iWork icon going away on July 31 as well?

Thanks for your patience.

Thanks for the info, Peggy. I have been wondering about the iWork on iCloud because I don't have any mobile devices, so it looks like using only Macbooks and iMacs means I can't use iWork on iCloud.

(Which is why I'm becoming more and more disillusioned with Apple and it's big hype for services that they shut down after a couple of years).

iWork beta said "share your iWork docs with anyone on a mac or a PC"

Great ! That was what I needed then, so I bought iWork 09 and switch from the old iWork 08 !

But now is iCloud...

and nothing works...

I am not even sure that numbers 2.1 can push on iCloud or not... should I buy Numbers 2.2 ?

Well even thow, iCloud will not share the numbers files pushed on iCloud with others...

If I get it correctly, that is not the purpose of iCloud... i will only be able to share my own docs with me and myself on my iPhone or my iPad... but I don't have any iPad neither iPhone and don't want any...

I work with Mac since more than 20 years... I mean : I work... I don't need apple to be mobile, I have my 2 legs working fine... when I want to play tennis, I go to my club, I don't play on iPad...

This company is taking a direction wich is obviously ridiculous...

I think I will not even buy a new iMac when mine will be broken, I will just use papers and pencils...

ALL THIS GIG IS RIDICULOUS !!!

exactly.

bad move Apple....

how do we now share to OTHERS - in a format that they can participate with us in? The web shared Keynotes allowing notes and feedback was very good... even if a bit outdated by now.

But just dumping one the best features of that app family and online service and with no alternative?.... totally bunk.

as a former Apple Engineer - I do protest. 😉
