How to manually eject a disc?

Does anyone know how to manually eject a disc? I tried booting with the trackpad button down, but nothing. I don't even get a grey screen, just a black one. It sounds like the disc spins up, but nothing on the screen.

Please help!

I had the same problem twice. What I did was leave the computer on for 10-15 minutes. After that it restarts and the disc will be ejected. I was about to sent my MBP to the apple centre the next day. Luckily when it failed to boot the first time, i left it running while i went and looked for a solution online using my other computer. When I got back the computer had ejected the disc for me.

So i suggest you try waiting for 10-15 minutes and see if your MBP restarts and spits out your disc. In this case good things come to those who wait. 😉

Hope this helps!

Rob,

Thanks so very much. I used the credit card trick you describe (1/4 inch from the right, put in on top of the disc, hit eject). It worked the first time.

I see this is an issue with MANY MBP owners. I strongly recommend this technique to anyone experiencing this issue. I had tried everything, and I do mean everything, else before this. I should have done this first!

I unplugged the computer from everything, including power. Then I tried holding my MBP upside down and pushing all the keys earlier mentioned. When that didn't work, I turned the MBP perpendicular to the ground with the opening for the disc pointing down. Then I shook the computer up and down. Finally a wee edge of the disk peeked out of the slot. I grapped that edge with tweezers and pulled it our without difficulty. Disc was ruined but my problem was solved and the disc contents had already been loaded into iTunes, so no big problem. Hope this works for you if nothing else does.

By the way, the CD player works fine now.

Well, if Phone Support and the Apple Store don't
work, you can always do the chat with an agent
online. Check it out here:

And yes, it actually works. I've talked to them. They
are quite nice, even when I accidentally started a
chat with no reason. Oops!

This is only available for owners of iPods & iMacs. Nothing else. I'm sorry, but I am very frustrated.

This might sound "agricultural", but it worked for me when I couldn't eject a CD on my MBP:

Take you MBP with both hands and turn it upside down, with the slot where the CD goes angled downwards. Then push the eject button. Most times, the CD will eject. Hope this works for you!

Just to add to the list of tips, here's what happened
with me.

A DVD got stuck in my MBP. The disc mounted and
played. When I tried to eject, the disc would
unmount, the eject mechanism would kick in, and you
could hear that the disc was being ejected. However,
the disc would then (at least this is what it sounded
like) hit the casing and stop. With the disc still
being in the slot, the drive mechanism would trigger
and the disc would be remounted, etc.

This particular situation is slightly different from
many of the others I've read in this thread, and in
the other thread about the stuck
CD-R
. I had tried all the software "fixes"; I had
tried tilting the machine (upside down and at 45˚); I
had tried letting the machine cool down before
repeating all the previous tricks; and I had even
tried a couple of undoubtedly non-Apple approved
tricks (e.g. pushing down on the casing above the
optical drive as the disc tried to eject).

None of these worked.

I finally managed to eject the disc by inserting the
corner of a thin laminated card (e.g. a video library
card) about half an inch into the slot (about a
quarter way across from the right). I used the card
to feel for the edge of the disc, and then put the
corner of the card on top of the edge of the
disc (and not below as suggested in the other thread
as a means to unmount the disc). With the card in
place, I held down the eject. The disc unmounted and
slid forward, and the card guided the disc out of the
slot.

I don't know if many others have had the same problem
as me, but if so, hopefully this trick will work.

Last night, a CD got stuck in my MBP (15.4/1.84 CD). Like the poster I am quoting, you could hear the drive trying to eject the disk, but it just wouldn't come out. I tried the trick with the laminated card, but that didn't work either. What finally did work was to eject the disk with the machine held upside down. Then it came right out. I tried another CD, and it ejected fine.

Strange...
