Can't save images from safari onto desktop via drag and drop

Hey guys, I've been having this problem for a couple of days now, it was working fine but all of a sudden I can't save a picture onto my desktop or any folder in finder directly from safari by dragging and dropping, I can do it in aperture and iphoto but not onto my desktop or finder, is there anyway I to correct this?!

I had this issue in the middle of the night suddenly and it's so annoying.

these problems surfaced after i had a security update (ver 10.11.6) and installed Safari v10.1

I tried all method mentioned here but of to no avail.

It was fixed only when i updated my OS from El Capitan to Sierra.

I've been experiencing this problem with dragging-and-dropping images from Safari onto a Finder window frequently ever since OS X 10.7 up to now (10.8.5) and still haven't found a fix. Every once in a while, the Finder refuses to accept a drag-and-drop, the dragged icon or thumbnail just "returns" to the Safari window. Only restarting the Finder solves the issue temporarily.

I can confirm that using a Logitech USB mouse makes the problem even worse, but apparently, it does NOT depend on a specific input device (Wacom tablets, e.g.). Neither has it anything to do with JavaScript blocking drag-and-drop actions, nor with (en/disabling) spring-loaded folders.

It actually appears to be a (already quite fossilized!) bug in the Finder. 😟

Yes, there does seem to be an archaic Finder bug. I resorted to using an Apple mouse as it gives less trouble than any Logitech device.

But Finder still has a bug/s. When I sometimes drag a file from a Finder window onto the desktop, the file 'disappears'. It's not on the desktop, nor in the original Finder window. This happened a few times before I realised that the item being moved was dropped onto the desktop background, but not in the position were it was dropped, but instead in the very top lefthand position of the desktop (with two-thirds of the file obscured – off the edge of the visible screen – the position where you would find the mouse arrow upon start-up of the Mac).

There is another bug in Finder that is even older. Sometimes, when the Finder is first opened, it does not remember its last position on the desktop screen, and Finder is positioned a few inches away from where it was last located on the desktop and where it was last used before being 'Shut Down'. At other times the main 'Home' Finder window doesn't remember that it should be displayed as 'Icons', but instead, the Home screen is shown as a 'List'. I have noticed this bug goes back to previous versions of the operating system (I am presently using OSX 10.7.5) and on two different Mac computers. Ghost in the machine, perhaps? 😮

No. Unfortunately drag-and-drop has nothing to do with the devices. The only way to solve this out is to select Force Quit then select Finder then click Relaunch. Finder is then "refreshing" its "memory". That is why drag-and-drop works after the computer is wake up from sleep or restarted or when logged as another user. It just "refresh" the Finder. You may notice that, at a certain point, Finder mai "refresh" itself witohut Relaunch. Unfortunately this bug is still present in OSX 10.9. It is a pity because drag-and-drop used to be Apple's landmark but it seems that this is a tribute paid for the transition to Intel processors. 😟 Windows machines always needs this "refresh".
