There is only ONE picture. Simply two places from which to access that ONE picture.

If you delete it, then it is gone.

Just as a book is in the public library and in the fiction section, if you remove the book, then it is gone from both the library and fiction section.

Do NOT delete the photo.

ALL pics taken with the iphone will be ion the camera roll. When you make a folder you simply create a new way in which to access that very same pic in the camera roll.

Nice job allec.

i realize that. im just saying its silly of apple, not to let us make "folders." whats the point of creating another album, if youre just going to have the picture be in two albums? my android phone was nice like that. if i wanted a folder for ONLY my dog, it'd be..ONLY of my dog and be the ONLY place that has him.

so im just still wondering..is there a way i could take certain pictures from the camera roll, onto a seperate folder? whethere it be via computer or not.

The picture is not in two albums. There is only one picture. NOT two. ONLY one.

You can access all pics from camera roll. You can then access those exact same pics from the albums that you make. NOT TWO photos, just one.

If you wanted to show someone all of your pics, then you could use camera roll.

If you wanted to show only pics of your dog, then use the dog album.

There are not two copies. Simply two way to access the exact same photo.

Just as your music is in a plylist and in teh music library. ONE song accessed from two places.

You should be importing all pics taken with iphone to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera. You can then sort them however you like.

If you sync them to iphone they will in the Photo library adn in the album you sync as the exact same thing applies.

thanks..again, i realize its one picture stored in multiple places.

im trying to take a picture and put it in a different folder. im saying i do not want it stored in two folders. whats the point of making a folder of my dog, so i can show someone my dog, when i can just go into my camera roll and show them? i only want certain pictures in certain folders

You are talking about syncing photos from the computer to the phone. That is how you do it. Import the photos from the camera roll. Save them in a folder called "Dog" and then connect the iPhone to iTunes. Go to the Photo tab and select the folder "Dog" to sync to the iPhone. After the sync, then open the Photos section and find the folder "Dog". Open it and you can see all your pictures.

The ability to create new folders in the iPhone does not protect the photos, as you found the hard way. All it is for is to help those individuals that seem to want to keep hundreds to thousands of pictures in the camera roll. That is a dangerous way to do things, as if anything happens to the iPhone, and needs to be restored, the photos are lost. Just like if something happened to the data card in your digital camera.

I think you were missing his point. And I also have to agree good job apple. If I am going to make a folder why would I want a "short cut" to the camera roll. It's a waste of time when one could just go thru the camera roll.

Plus let's face it some pictures you just want out of the "main" roll, so not everyone and there brother who looks thru ur pictures can see them.

Allec the only thing I've found so far is photoalbums+, but it seems you have to jailbreak ur phone :(. You'd think apple would be smart enough to fix this.

I'm glad others are seeing the photo issue this way as well. This is driving me in SANE! You would think apple would make this more flexible. I totally agree with Blowininthewind about not wanting everyone to see EVERY pic in the main roll. Also, I find it hard to determin what I've organized in albums and what I haven't. Apple needs to get a better grip on this!!!

I think it's stupid. Don't know if it's just my f*cked up iTunes, but when I tick for just one folder to be added to my iPhone, it adds another 3. From the top of my head, I don't know what they are. But, say I had Camera roll on my iPhone and I asked to sync a folder called 'Nathan' I would end up with something like:

Camera Roll (38)

Nathan (12)

Photo's (0)

Some Other Random Folder (12)

So I would have my regular camera roll, followed by 'Nathan' which is what I asked. But then iTunes would magic up two folders from nowhere. One containing the same photos as 'Nathan' and one which has no photos within it. Neither cannot be deleted from the iPhone, and if I unsyc, of course, the files I want are also removed. There's no winning with my iPhone and iTunes it seems. Any help?

And I get what Allec is saying, he wants to just be able to delete photos from his camera roll but still keep them on the folder he created on the phone. If it was possible then my problem would also be solved. I'm sure we're not the only ones too. Apple should definitely add the feature.

I feel your pain! I aint gunna lie.. Ive got some dirty pics of me and my girlfriend on my camera roll which I'd like to keep for my own personal viewing but obviously dont want family and friends seeing. I had planned to make a private album where I could put these pics and then if anyone was browsing threw my pics they would not come across these. However this is not the case, the pics are still in the camera roll so what is the point of me making a private album!?? Stupid apple.. Sort it out!!

It's not pretty, but I've come up with a workaround for this. I've created new albums for my dogs, my niece, funny sayings or those goofy eCards and then one for Other. I add the photos from my Camera Roll into the albums I created. I only use my Camera Roll as temporary storage and keep my photos that I show people in the albums I created. I keep track of which ones I've already added by taking a picture of a piece of white paper or something similar so that the next time I go to add pictures to my albums, I only have to go as far back as the white paper picture. I do this every 30 pictures or so so that the task doesn't get overwhelming. It's nice because when I go to import pictures, they are already saved in the folders I want them in and keep them organized on my computer.

Here is a workaround:

1. Camera Roll

1.1 tap on the share button (top right corner)

1.2 tap on the images you want move to a different photo folder (max 5 images possible)

1.3 tap on the share button (bottom left corner)

1.4 chose Email and send the 5 images to yourself

2. PC

2.1 open your inbox and download the 5 images

2.2 copy and paste the images from your Download folder to a new folder created in your Images folder

3. iTunes

3.1 open iTunes and connect your iPhone

3.2. open in the top menu Photos

3.3 make sure that Sync Photos is checkmarked as well as All Folders or

3.3 if you sync only selected folders make sure that your new created folder (above 2.2) is checkmarked

4. Sync

4.1 sync your iPhone

5. Camera Roll

5.1 open Camera Roll on your iPhone

5.2 tap on the share button (top right corner)

5.3 tap on the 5 images you downloaded earlier

5.4 tap on the Delete button (bottom right corner)

5.5 confirm delete

Repeat those steps for the next 5 images, and so on...

6. Cleaning up PC

6.1 delete the emails you sent to yourself

6.2 delete the images in your Download folder

If you don't want a huge amount of images in your Camera Roll It is recommended to proceed as described everytime when you shoot new pictures since you only may 5 images download, meaning, if you wait until you have 1,000 images in your Camera Roll you have to repeat the whole thing 200 times!

Yep, I agree! So stupid. I only recently was like hey let's organise some of these photos. So I made the photos of like

holidays and weddings. Then went to the reel deleted those and now they are all gone! :( I didn't sync my phone in time either so they r well and truly gone. I just figured it was similar to an actual folder system. Where u literally copy the folder to another one and you have two copies then u delete original but still have the copy. They should

make that clearer or something I don't know. I'm just ****** about losing my cousins wedding photos!!

I just got an iphone 4s this weekend and cannot believe this idiotic photo storage system. I though Apple was all about "function"! Having to export photos to my computer, take them off the iphone, then re-import by syncing new folders off my computer is RIDICULOUS. I, like everyone else, want to move pictures FROM "Camera Roll" TO a folder and get them OFF the Camera Roll. Hello, Apple?? Are you listening??
