Cracked my iPad screen. How much $ to replace?

Recently, I dropped my iPad 2, white, on it's face in the street (on accident, of course). It was a small crack in the corner and that I could deal with, but it just got bigger and bigger. Now there is a mid-sized spiderweb crack in the corner, and branching off is a large vertical crack going up the screen to the top. My sister cracked my iPod touch 1st gen years ago and went to apple, and it would have been $99 for a new one but they gave me one free because my 1 year old sister did it and she didn't know better. I heard it was free for your "first offense" now, maybe they changed the rule over the years, IDK, but I just want to clarify how much it would cost.

Also, I bought it off amazon on Janurary 25th from a guy named Chris Wang. That makes me nervous because it wasn't bought off apple, but it wasn't used. The box was still in the sealed plastic wrap, the iPad didn't have one fingerprint on it, and it also was in the plastic wrap. I don't know if me not being in apples system would affect anything, but I hope not. I would like to avoid 3rd party dealers as I've always trusted apple to take care of my devices. And most importantly, if they give me a new iPad, would their backup backup my GTA III and GTA CTW data? I've gotten so far into the games, and I would like die if I didn't have my save data from them if I get a new one.

How much money would it be to replace, and is the rumor true that it's free for your "first offense"?

Any help from anyone with experience, say an employee, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

-Tyler

I don't think the first offense thing is true unfortunately. I think sometimes one can get lucky with a particular Apple store employee or even a representative from Applecare, but as a "Policy" I don't think so. I would certainly call Applecare if I were you and tell them the serial number of your iPad. See if it's still under warranty, then go from there. If they won't fix it for you, I am a repair technician for a company that does ship-in iPad repairs. The process is super easy and we take really good care of each iPad that comes in. We have a 24-Hour Turnaround & Genuine Quality Parts!
