Where can I download Apple Hardware Diagnostics for MacBookPro2,1?

My MacBook Pro 17-inch Core 2 Duo (MacBookPro2,1)'s DVD drive appears to be faulty - It treats working DVD's as 'blank'.

I want to run Apple Hardware Diagnostics (AHD) on the machine but (a) I can't find the original DVD for the machine (b) in any event it won't work as the drive is faulty!

I know I can download older versions of AHD at http://www.info.apple.com/support/aht.html but where can I find one for my Mac?

I want to download it and 'restore' it to a hard disc partition so I can boot it from there.

Any ideas anyone?

This is what worked for me. Go to this site:

https://github.com/upekkha/AppleHardwareTest

... and download the dmg file for your model (mounted, this gives you a /System folder, which contains the diagnostics at /System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics.

Do not, however, follow the instructions at that site. Instead, go to:

http://rivenbyfive.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/download-and-run-apple-hardware-test.h tml

... and follow the instructions there for creating bootable USB thumb-drive and rebooting from it to run the diagnostics. That site also has a list of downloads, but it's not as comprehensive as the list at the first link.

It's unconscionable, to me, that Apple makes it this difficult to be able to run diagnostics on a machine that you may have purchased used, or somehow lost the install disks for.

I did this for a Mac Pro 1,1 and 4,1 and it worked great.
