Easter Egg or Hacker?

This may sound like a silly question however......

I recently upgraded to lion. when I finished the install I went to the login screen and the login message was set to "Welcome Plebb" I'm wondering if I have stumbled on an easter egg or if I have been hacked or something along those lines.

Mac OS X (10.7.3)

"Reserved"? Interesting term. Go back up and read a post earlier on this page, you'll see I use the word 'well-educated' - we're angling at the same thing.

Reserved / Well Educated, maybe, leads to the same thing, I had a few freinds who were a product of the 'Upper Crust' schools, but they were as foul mouthed as I 🙂

Pleb sounds like a historians idea of an insult, maybe the OP should look there.

Indulging this diversion for the moment...

I'm neither offering Linc's idea of a deductive proof nor am I suggesting that the word couldn't have been used by someone who derived it from a completely different source (indeed, the double 'bb' ending is irregular anyway even for slang). I'm simply offering an avenue that the OP might consider to see if it brings anyone to mind. Perfectly happy to admit it could be a complete red-herring.

As for credibility, short of posting my birth certificate, you'll have to take my word for it that as someone who's English and has mixed with all classes of society from the very poorest to the very richest through five decades, I kind of know what I'm talking about. That's aside from spending 10 years of doing linguistic analysis in various fields. Just saying...

Now, if we could get back to the main show. Does anyone have any idea on how to move forward with helping the OP beyond what has already been said?

I don't need your birth certificate, English is irregular enough that anything is possible, but I am genuinely surprised at the use of the term pleb (especially with bb as an ending) as an insult, it seems out of its time somehow.

To the OP's issue I would recommend an erase and install

I've checked the loginwindow.plist of my original install (the one that is still on my main machine not from timemachine) it doesn't mention anything about the changed login message. Which means it was changed sometime during/ immediately after the install.

As for the identity of the person who could have changed it. I really don't know anyone with the know how to do something like this remotley (or even directly to be honest).

There seems to be alot more information in my current install's com.apple.loginwindow.plist

I don't know if that is of any help.

Also I'm currently keeping an eye on all network activity through little snitch.

a few sevices make me curious

mDNSResponder: which seems to ping my phone from time to time.

Netbiosd: I have no idea what it does but it seems to be connecting to my girlfriends mac

as well as

sw_probed and ifffswiretapServer which seems to be from an old copy of autodesk smoke. (could this be used to hack my system?)
