Audio out stuck on Digital Output after running an HDMI setup.

So while at a gig last night with my band, we ran a video from my computer to screens on stage. The chain looked like so:

MBP -> Mini-DisplayPort -> MDP/HDMI converter -> 4-way HDMI Splitter -> LCD Monitors

Now sometime during takedown, someone just decided to unplug something from my computer without consulting me or taking any proper precautions. Now my audio is stuck on Digital Output (type digital optical out).

Here's what I know, and what I've tried.

There is NO red light coming from my line out. Please don't bother suggesting the micro-switch fix.

I have reset the PRAM/NVRAM

I have killed coreaudio a few times with no luck

I have deleted without progress:

1) com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist

2) com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist

3) com.apple.systemsound.plist

I have restarted my computer

I have attempted to use Audio MIDI Setup

I have googled:

1) com.apple.systemsound

2) macbook pro stuck on digital out audio no red light

3) force resetting to internal audio osx

4) force reset coreaudio osx

5) com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist

6) resetting audio output osx

7) osx audio stuck on digital out

8) osx audio stuck on digital out after hdmi

9) osx audio stuck on hdmi

Now that I've most likely narrowed the issue down, can someone tell me what I HAVEN'T done?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

PRAM is already Reset.

May be Reset SMC will help.

After reading a bit and trying a few things I tried something someone posted here and worked. I played a song in iTunes with the headphones plugged in and unplugged, plugged again and sound came from the headphones but not from the speakers. Plugged again and sound again came from the headphones. Unplugged again but no sound from speakers again, and it just came to me to try the volume control and violå!! Hope this helps someone.

This helped me except that when I do this:

Now you should get sound back from your computer speakers. But you still might have the grey icon up top and not be able to control the volume. So:

7) Hold down the "option" key and click the speaker icon at the top of your computer screen (on the home bar up top)

8) select "internal speakers"

I don't see an option for "internal speakers"

I have tried EVERYTHING in this post and I have the same problem- red light is still on, audio is grayed out, digital output is the only available option (no internal speakers), but headphones work fine and I hear the chime upon start-up. I even tried blowing, because I read that as an option on another forum. Anybody have any other ideas?

Thanks!

When the red light was on --- ALL I DID WAS BLOW into the headphone port/jack and that cleared out some fluff that was blocking the little itty bitty sensor inside the head phone jack. If it doesn't work then something bigger is stuck. Shut it down to turn off the red light and use a flashlight to see inside. Maybe some compressed air might clear it out... (or power washer...j/k)

If you use something hard like tweezers don't poke or hit the end/walls

I found this solution did work with a sligh variation. The problem initially occurred when adjusting output settings for a VCI-380: The Output wouldn't go back to Internal Speakers when ejecting the VCI.

After a SMC reset, I pulled the line out (heaphones or speakers) in and out quickly while pressing the keyboard volume + and -. Eventually the volume display on screen stayed active instead of greying out. I'm running OS X 10.6.8.
