Will the iOS and the iPad ever have true multitasking?

I have an iPad 3 and don't understand why it doesn't support true multitasking. I would like to be able to open an App and then have the option of closing that App or minimize it. I would like the ability to then quickly switch between those minimized rather then all those that I have opened recently.

At this point why does the iPad share an OS with the iPhone? The iPad 3 is simply an amazing device that is limited to being pretty good because of the OS limitations.

Yeah, it's not the end of the world to remove apps from the recently used bar. That really wasn't the issue I was posting about. That is just a symptom of the way multitasking is handled in iOS.

The reason for my post was to have a discussion of whether or not the iPad might move away from an OS that was based on the iPhone. While the iPad certainly has different features enabled then the iPhone, they both are using the same core OS code. What I am hoping is that at some point the iPad which I believe to be much more like a MacBook Air will move to something closer to OS X.

No one here can tell you what Apple will decide to do in future versions of iOS. And speculation on products is counter to the terms of use for the site.

Otherwise, if you wanted a MacBookAir, why didn't you buy one.

James, did you read the entire thread? It is very technical in nature and offers constructive feedback about product features. Specifically the multitasking feature. As part of that discussion its is reasonable to discuss if that feature will eventually be improved in later versions. This is not speculation on unannouced products or Apple policy. Actually, your post is more counter to the terms of use for the site then mine.

Also, where did I say I would rather have a MacBook Air? If you don't want to discuss this topic then don't post about it but please stop posting things about me I never said.

Hense, my very appropriate response. the iPad is NOT an MacBookAir. If you want something like a that, it already exists. You can buy it now.

And the "technical" answer to your "highly technical" whine issue, is to offer your feedback to Apple. It is not an issue anyone here can address.

Why in the world would Apple design one of their products to compete with another of their products? That totally destroys the whole concept of offering a full spectrum of products.

@James - You really are not very smart. I don't know how else to say it. You've brought nothing to this conversation and have continued to misquote me. Here is a tip, if you are going to go to the trouble of using quotes then PLEASE quote what was actually said. If you want to paraphrase or change the meaning all together then don't use quotes. The only whiners on here are the people who continue to cry about everybody whining. How can you not see that? This is a discussion forum for ALL Apple users and topics. Not just you and the topics you find interesting.

While that may be true, you're certainly not telling Apple anything they don't already know.

I think you may be discounting the current limitiation of the hardware components, battery lige and the economics of optimizing the Apple product line, price points etc.

Unfortunately, wishing it were so is not enough.

I didn't paraphrase or change the meaning. It is a direct quote. Any one reading the thread is also welcome to look at it in its original context. If you are embarrassed, it likely has to do with your own behavior. I am disagreeing with the stance you have taken on what iOS behavior should be, pointing out the flaws I your logic and yes, criticizing your actions on the forum, characterizing it as pointless whining. The product you claim to want already exists (you as much as said so yourself). That is what you should buy. Not an iPad if it doesn't suit your needs.
