Connecting to iTunes Connect failing.
Apple ID is OK.
What to do?

Ah, OK. In that case, it might be a problem with the iTunes Connect backend. I'd try again in a few days.

Unfortunately, I have been trying for a few days and a gentleman I work with has been experiencing the issue for over 2 weeks. I am contemplating trying to create a pay account since this error is ongoing on the free account side.
i just submitted a free books application today and received an email shortly after for my iTunes Connect account. I would try again, it was pretty simple.
It finally worked tonight. Took three days of getting error messages, so I guess the trick is to stay patient. Weird that it was so difficult, though. As I said before, very un-Apple-y.
Did you check iTunesConnect Status (@itcstatus) on Twitter ?
For some mysterious reason all is working fine now.
Logged in, created account and downloaded producer...
Wonder what's next.
