Upgrading iMac Graphics Card

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if it is possible to upgrade a graphics card on a 24-inch iMac, early 2009. If so, I really want to replace my

NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 256MB with an AMD Radeon HD 6970 1GB, I'm not sure if that will work or not.

Thanks.

It's highly unlikely an off the shelf graphics card will fit inside the iMac.

Some iMacs had onboard Graphics which were fitted directly on the logic board, others, depending on model, did have a seperate custom made card, which theoretically could be swapped out, but obtaining a card to replace the existing one will be the biggest issue.

You could speak to Apple Tech Support and ask about possible upgrade paths on your machine (if any exist) and find out what cost would be involved for the parts required, but getting spares from Apple will not be cheap.
