It looks like the word "failure" is getting a complete New-Speak, up is down, down is up, make-over.
All the Flashback reports I have seen said that the only action Flashback ever accomplished was crashing Safari.
Well then I guess you missed a bunch of reports. It certainly did crash Safari as well as several other applications in it's earlier forms, but I'm certain that was an unintended result of the infection. There were numerous reports of users being redirected to ad sites, and that would seem to have been the intended result. That activity pays the bills for their efforts. I am still seeing infected users pop up in the forum, probably one a day, mostly with the older crashing Safari problems, but all the ones that were infected recently have involved re-directs, which makes me think that the current variant may be bug free.
I know you will simply think this is more FUD from Intego, but their blog has been keeping things alive for the past two days, first with Flashback Mac Malware: Number of Infected Macs Not Decreasing and today with What is Flashback? wherein they describe some possible future accomplishments and the story of how the bad guys manually disabled one of the computers they set up to monitor things. You may not believe a word of it, but it makes for a good read.
