superfish/window shopper

This just started on my iMac today.

As a temporary fix, I'm using the Javascript Blacklist extension for Safari, and have 'superfish.com' listed as one of the domains to block. Seems to be working - although I'd rather find out how that crap got on my iMac to start with, and how to banish it completely.

I had this same issue and wanted it gone. I removed the 'Youtube light switch' extension from Firefox Add-ons and that seemed to do the trick. Hope this helps.

I just discovered in Safari the culprit seems to be the "Awesome Screenshot" extension. I don't remember ever installing it, but there it was in the extensions list, and it has an option to enable additional features from superfish. I didn't bother with the disabling of superfish - just uninstalled the whole thing.

What a piece of s*** company. I'm disabling that entire plugin as well.

I have had this horrible plugin nagging me for the last month or so. The only way I figured out it was superfish was because the status bar link showed www.superfish.com when I hovered over any of the images.

Really annoying and I'm sorry I ever activated it. I have now uninstalled Awesome Screenshot all together as I never used it anyway!

So if you want to disable superfish and keep AS go Safari>Preferences>Extensions and uncheck 'Enable similar product search by Superfish'

I feel kind of violated, I open apple.com to see the price of a new iPad and when I put my cursor on the iPad's picture this stupid superfish tells me that I can find another iPad on another site that cost more than 4000 Euros. Not only is invasive but it gives you the worst advice ever. I have now uninstalled Awesome Screenshot all together as I never used it anyway and correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the app "Grab" do the same?Having Superfish appear on my Mac was like a flashback of my previous lifetime when I used windows and all types of uninvited crap would just show up.

When I installed Java 7 it (apparently) installed Quick Maps to my Firefox and opened the Quick Maps homepage, and I got a message from Superfish asking about some sort of enhanced search. I immediately removed Quick Maps and expect that to be the end of it.

I know it was almost a year ago you posted this, but I have just wasted more than an hour trying to work out why this Superfish thing was appearing on my browser trying to sell me e-Bay products. It was on my own website, so I then started checking the server and the web page code.

Now, thanks to you, I have unintstalled the Safari Extension called "Awesome Screenshot" and all seems OK.

I had the same issue now today and the reason why i had these ads were the pretty hidden option Ads/Shopping in the Glims plugin for Safari — be aware. You can turn it off, but it's turned on by default. Annoying.

Unfortunately, on my system when I do this, the AS extension keeps re-checking the box. This truly seems like it is spamware.

That superfish idiocy drove me crazy. I would much rather pay the developers of Glims real money than suffer that kind of intrusive ads.

You're welcome... I lost 2 hours because of that, so stuipd of the devs to sneak this in. Apparently it says it on the install screens, but who reads them? I would have paid, too. Wonder how much money they get to use this fishy and *invasive* software. So so ugly, yuk!
