I haven't used Bang & Olufsen for at least 20 years. The one single exception is a pair of bookshelf speakers that miraculously continue to work!

Before then I used nothing else, but as the years rolled by I realised that their equipment was hugely over-priced, stuck in a brushed alluminium time-warp, used out of date technology, but above all, based on personal experience, very unreliable. I have never owned any B&O equipment* that did not require extensive repairs.

3 record decks

4 tuner amplifiers

1 cassette player

1 reel-to-reel tape recorder

4 pairs of loudspeakers (these all worked, but too bulky!)

But of course, 'Hi-Fi' is now dead and gone, replaced by iPods and digital radios.

Still have my linear arm turntable, and I had a pair of the inear headphones that I gave to my brother-in-law. My "HiFi" shop quit carrying them many years ago as their dealer demands became outrageous and then they tried their own stores. Nice designs but mostly overpriced and under-powered.

Before I had the linear arm B&O record deck I made my own with a Thorens turntable, an SME arm and either a Shure or Ortofon cartridge. Can't remember which cartridge I preferred.

I still have the SME arm in its original packaging. Must sell that on eBay....

But how times change. The only Ortofon in our house is now my wife's hearing aids! 🙂
