Can't export or share in Final Cut Pro X

Indeed I have, here's a screen shot, I've indexed up and down the time line and re-rendered the project -- play back perfectly in FPCx -- Has a completely greyed out Share Menu.

I had the same problem but it is now fixed. In my case, I couldn't export because of a background task that was in progress.

My hour long footage took a while to "tanscode & analyze." Once that was done, the export menu was avaliable.

Go see if you have the same problem open Background Tasks:

Window > Background Tasks

or Apple 9 on your keyboard

I just had the this sharing problem (everything greyed out) with Final Cut X Trial. I just trashed the preferances (didn't need to trash the program and it is now working after doing that. Thanks for the solution!

I had the same problem. Only my current project could not be shared. I did have some background task running, so went to bed. Next morning same thing. I restarted, and that did not help. I looked at other projects and they could be shared. I relinked all files and that must have worked. I exported but several clips were without sound, so now I'm working on that issue. But it must have somthing to do with importing the clips and not being linked properly.

Found the reason why I had no sound on a couple of clips. The clips changed to audio L/R channel while the others were stereo. I changed them to stereo and it solved the problem.

My solution for the this problem was to trash the file CurrentVersion.fcpevent inside the folders Final Cut Events/name of the event/CurrentVersion.fcpevent. Then I restart the FCPX, reopen and finally exported the .MOV.

Well, I just had the grey out happen again. I had updated Lion and FCP and thought that might had done something so I came back to this post.

I had changed some audio files and thought that might had something to do with it and then I tried Branias suggestion of deleting the CurrentVersion.fcpevent and re-added it and the grayed out went away. I think my biggest problem is having an external back-up (My Book) with files stored on there. I have been in the process of storing photo and video files on the extern hard drive and only completed mov on my mac book.

Can you take a screenshot of what that looks like when the grey out happens. Can you click the Share button or is it dimmed?

Not sure if this is help to anyone, but I had this problem occur and could not solve it so I back tracked everything I did to work out my error. It turned out to be a problem with a Synchronised Clip I had. I simply deleted the synced clip and it fixed it. It never reoccurred again so I cannot guarantee this is what was the actual cause but it fixed my problem at the time.

Actually this happened again to me on a very very simple video test.

I had slept the Mac and when I returned I found the share menu greyed out. This time I'm using 10.0.6 so its in a difference place.

What sorted it was going into preferences->destinations and out again without changing anything, share enabled again and away I went.

I'm aware that this menu greys out if the timeline is not in focus so that wasn't the problem.

Really? That is your solution? Download and re-install the whole program?

I have spent more time troubleshooting FCPX than actually producing. Failure all over, just gimmicks.

Really? You're jumping into a thread that's responding to something from sevent months ago, or like four updates ago?

Hey guys, I found out if you trash the prefrences for FCPX, the export hot key will not work. So go into Preferences in FCPX and go to destinations, then set the default export you want. After that the "Command E" will work again.

That's correct. The shortcut is for the default setting. No default is set until you assign it in the application.
