Is there a way of doing key board shortcuts; cut, paste and copy with the iPad inbuilt keyboard without pointing at type and using the slower interface system?

No. That is not possible with the iPad keyboard. There are no keyboard shortcuts of that nature.
You can create phrase shortcuts - abbreviations as it were for commonly used phrases - but not control based ones as you list. Those functions are all accessed on the touch screen.
Thankyou James....my main annoyance at the moment when typing is if I want to go back between words I have to very carefully point between the letters or delete part of the word to correct it if the spell checking option isn't recognising it or I write a grammatically incorrect section etc...is there another way? Also the correct spelling option when typing is so close to the word it is hard to point to correct? I do love the iPads functionality but I m definitely not feeling fluid with it.

For example I downloaded a solitaire app a few days ago, it is asking for an upgrade but some of the reviews are very poor for the upgrade. I am happy with the one I have. I don't mind being notified of an upgrade just don't want to see it waiting there forever.
No, no way to remove the update alert. Your choices are to accept and download or ignore it.
If, like most of us, you are acustomed to standard PC keyboard and editing functionality, it certainly does take some getting used to. For what it's worth, with a little practice, it does get easier.

Yeah, I understand. I'm admittedly an old fart, with 25 year of IT experience and fairly set in my ways. Took (is taking) a little effort to get used to doing things differently, but I'm getting there.

Me... 15 years designer animator began back in the days of dos....10 years mother....with pc activity ...enjoying the challenges and joys of my new iPad and the correspondence and help. Always found as a freelancer ( did some work into USA ) that world of programmers and studios was immensely helpful and positive. Good to iPad text with you James Ward 4 ....school run calls...
