My MacBook Air keeps switching between desktop and full screen apps by itself without me doing the 4-fingered swipe. I've tried quitting various apps and restarting the laptop but to no avail. Help?

My 11" MacBook Air recently just started randomly switching from full screen apps back to the desktop by itself without me using the 4-fingered swipe to change desktops/apps. I've tried quitting (almost) every app and no matter what app is left open, it keeps sliding from the full screen app back to the desktop. I've rebooted the laptop a good three times and it's also been fully shut down and turned back on twice and it still keeps switching. Help?

Umm no you shouldnt be blaming, Google Drive isnt officially even supported for 10.9, as you can see from this system req page: https://support.google.com/drive/answer/2375082?hl=en&ref_topic=2463299

The only reason it runs is because your running the same kernel architecture.

Plus this doesnt happen in those other OS's like 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8, so whos the real culprit? non stable shiny new OS? or the user who thinks "it should just work"?

No, this will happen when I'm not even touching the MacBook. I'll let it sit open on a full screen app and not touch it (say, Spotify or iTunes when it's playing music) and the screen will go back to the desktop randomly. And the menu bar still says it's open to the app I just had up (Spotify/iTunes), instead of saying Finder.

I'm having this problem with my 11" MacBook Air too. At first I thought it was only happening in Chrome or Safari, but tried to watch a movie in Quicktime today with fullscreen mode, and the same thing happended: it would randomly switch back to the finder with no response from me on the trackpad or keyboard, but the movie was still running in the background. I have to do a 4 finger swipe to go back to the movie, or click "bring all to front". Very annoying.

I am experiencing this problem as well and it is a real productivity killer with my 13"Macbook Air.

Apple needs to provide an update to resolve this issue as it makes it almost unusable for multitaskers like myself.

Looking forward for your fix Apple. Please get on this!!

I read from another forum that Google Drive is the culprit behind this peculiar behaviour and the solution is to disable or uninstall it. I quit the application and so far my mac seems to be behaving, although it's a little strange since Google Drive has been installed on my mac since Lion.

Hey guys! I started having the same problem here and though my MBA would need a repair. And yes, this is Google Drive, I just have no idea why. Instead of uninstalling/disabling it (this is terrible as I use it a lot), it also works if you disable "Show file sync status and right click menu" in the Google Drive preferences. It has been working for me so far. Saw it in another thread here in Apple Support Communities.

I've been having the same issue on my new rMBP 15'' with Maverick. I've finally figured out what was causing the issue for me: Google Drive.

When the Google Drive app is active in the background, it seems to be provoking the random switches between spaces. I've tried quitting the app or even pausing it, and it solves the issue. No random screen switching anymore. What's strange is that I installed Google Drive a few days ago, and it was running fine until today when the "screen switching" started. Ah well. Google isn't what it used to be.

I'd be curious to see if you find that Google Drive is also the cause of the issue for you. If not, then I would try by disabling background apps and see if it solves the issue. If it does, then try re-launching each app one by one, and checking when the problem comes back - you've then identified the problematic app.

I'll start to look for any updates on Google Drive to solve this issue. If anyone has an idea... I'd be happy to hear it. Hopefully this helps someone.
