Cannot reset sync History?

Cannot get ipod to sync with laptop, so searched around and found out that i should reset synchistory but it wont let me do it. How can i get my ipod to sync with laptop??

iPod touch, iOS 5.0.1

What happens when you try to sync? Error messages?

Have you successfully synced to the computer before?

What ahppens whenyou try to reset sync history? What do you mean by it will not let me?

First of all it takes itunes about 10mins to open preferences and when i click reset sync history nothing happens at all, i tried it on another computer that i used to use and it should come up and confirm whether or not u want to reset , but this does not happen ? Yeah i had an old ipod which used to work just fine.
