Cant login to YouTube on AppleTV

Well, it is difficult to translate to explain but i arrived to the page by looking for "gmail security password application" in google. Try some combination and you get it.

Tried everything and nothing worked. Apple TV 3rd Gen, OS 5.1.1

Please fix it Apple!!

I solved my problem. Apparently the Youtube app needs an application specific password. You need to have two step verification for your google account and regenerate an application password (all done at your google account settings) and then log in with the specific password and it works.

Ok. I guess this is the info that people will need...though is a pain in the ash.

Number 3 is not mandatory but it could save some time.

The 2-step verification magic does not work on my ipad or apple tv 3, still yelling at me that my username and/or password is incorrect.

You need to make a specific password for Youtube App Apple TV and use that password with your Apple TV. I worked for me.

I have just gone through this process (a bit painful, with a lot of "Application Specific Passwords", randomly generated by Google, to try to keep somewhere safe..) but, on my simple ATV setup, it works beautifully, with Favourites and View Later items now appearing on iPhone, iPad and ATV.

I know there are a lot of replies here, and I had the same problem as the OP...but nobody here seems to be replying with specific info...here is my reply with a fix:

1)I already had an Apple TV (latest version) purchased in April 2012 using version 5.1.1 of the Apple firmware and it was working just fine with my Youtube account with my Gmail account/email and password

2)I bought a 2nd Apple TV (latest version) a few days ago and it came with version 5.1 and I could not get the Youtube app to work with the Gmail email and password. I knew the info I was keying in was correct.

3)The fix for me was: Update the Apple TV to firmware 5.1.1 in the General area of the Apple menu. NOTE: You should use Wireless connectivity since there is a known bug using WIRED connectivity. 99% of the time, wired connectivity will NOT update the Apple TV to 5.1.1...it will just stop in the middle of the update with a generic message stating it could not update the Apple TV.

I managed to resolve the issue by (re) creating a channel in youtube. I'm not sure how I did it because I was just lurking around in the settings/profile page on youtube.com when suddenly there were some settings to create a channel for my account. Just pure luck.

So for me the issue was not related to the 2-step verification and application specific passwords

I had the same issue after I updated to AppleTV v.5.1.1.. Thanks for all who recommended creating a YouTube Channel. mihkelmi has it right.

About a month ago, YouTube changed their User Interface and suggested that all users create a channel. I didn't create one at that time, but I did so just now to allow AppleTV to recognize my account and password, and it worked.

In my case, the issue was not related to the 2-step verification and application specific passwords or having an e-mail that ended in @gmail.com.

I have been trying to login for two months! Thanks man!

I am also facing same problem. I tried searching many topics and I tried several things including

- Changing password

- Creating new account (tried logging in at least 4 other New / Old accounts)

- Creating Youtube Channel

- Logging in with Google Plus user name

- Creating Two Step verification

I simply don't understand, is it Apple TV issue or Youtube issue.

This was tricky! Using the "One time password" inside Google account settings did the trick!
