Cant login to YouTube on AppleTV

I have had a new AppleTV for a week. All setup and working but it wont login to Youtube.

I have a fully functioning Youtube (gmail) account that logs in perfectly on a PC.

Following other posts I have setup the Google 'one time app' authentication for the AppleTV and used those credentials.

I know Appletv used those credentials - and I got them correct - because Google shows the one time password as having being accessed at that time and AppleTV doesnt complain about bad credentials (which it does if you make a typo).

The message I get is:

This account cannot be used with Apple TV. Try using a different account.

what on earth is going on? I am in Australia - but that shouldnt make any difference as my PC (with an Australian IP and account) allows me to login to YouTube, watch, see rent movies etc. So it cant be a Youtube restriction.

It must be some sort of AppleTV bug or stuff up?

I've seen similar issues/posts but no definitive fix. This is very furstrating to have paid a hundred bucks for something where a key advertised fuction doesnt work.

Go to your Google account.
Go to Security
Look for "Connected applications and sites" -> Review permissions
Look for the section "Application-specific passwords"
In the text field enter your device, e.g. "Apple TV"
Click on "Generate password"
Then use this password to login with your Google account name.

It worked for me, hopefully for you, too.

After much headache I belive I have figured out the issue. I also have 2-step verification turned on for my google accounts (youtube included).

Solution:

1. Go to youtube.com

2. Click on the drop down by your username and select settings

3. Look for a setting to unlink your youtube account with Google+

4. Once unlinked, get a new single use application specific password for the Apple tv from your google account

5. On your Apple TV login with your ####@gmail.com username and application specific password

That should solve the most recent login problems. Apparently there is something google does to the account when linking it to google+ that prevents the Apple TV from recognizing the channel type. This could be fixed in a new update for the apple tv, or if google changes something later on their backend. In the meantime stay away from linking with google+ with youtube.

I live in Canada, and I resolve the login problem by setting my apple tv to my country as well as my youtube accout. By default it was France since I selected French. Also went to security to create a secured password.

I got it to work.

I have 2 step verification with Google (Highly recommend this)

I logged into my google account on my computer.

Find privacy settings - not that easy.

Click access to my account

Get a new code for each Apple TV you use.

Google gives you a long code to enter as you password for the device. (it is a one use password code)

Enter this into you Apple TV with your email as the user.

Repeate for each Apple TV device.

This worked for me. Yay.

I tried this and I tried that, I was pulling my hair out trying to login to my YouTube account on my AppleTV! It wasn't until I found this thread and read the last reply that I saw that the problem was a simple! The problem is I needed to use my email address associated with my YouTube account to login to YouTube on my Apple TV. Thank you @latenight. 😎

FIXED NOW

1 GO TO GOOGLE+ SETTING

2 GO TO SECURITY AND THEN APP PASSWORD SETTING

3 SELECT NAME OF THE APP AND GENERATE PASSWORD

4 NOW LOG IN WITH THAT PASSWORD

I mistakenly logged out from YouTube from AppleTV, Then after I was unable to login back to You Tube in AppleTV and Blueray Player, thou I was able to login to PC, ipad, iphone etc.

I also created a new google account and was unable to login to AppleTV and Blueray player. Again I was able to login to PC, ipad, iphone etc.

I logged into YouTube account in my PC then I created mychannel. I was successfully able to login to both AppleTV and Blueray player.

I created mychannel for my old You Tube account, then I was successfully able to login to both AppleTV and Blueray player.

This worked for me. Hopefully this will help others.
