How to stop Bonjour?

A few weeks ago Windows Defender started giving me the message "a system change has been made by a known application - C\Program Files\Bonjour\mdnsNSP.dll". I don’t want Bonjour running soI uninstalled it via the Control Panel. It disappeared from the Uninstall/Change Programs List, but still continues to run. I disabled the Bonjour Service, but it still continues to run. I executed the following two commands:

“%PROGRAMFILES%\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe” –remove

regsvr32 /u “%PROGRAMFILES%\Bonjour\mdnsNSP.dll”

- the first was confirmed as successful, but the second gave no confirmation of any kind. I tried to delete the Bonjour folder but was told that I can't delete mdnsNSP.dll because the file is open in another program. I stopped it using Task Manager, but it still continues to run. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium. How do I stop Bonjour running, so I can delete it?

Is the Bonjour Service still showing up in Services? If so, we can try disabling the service in there.

In your Start menu, right-click Computer and select "Manage".

Expand "Services & Applications".

Open "Services". (Perhaps maximise the screen to better see what's going on.)

Right-click the Bonjour Service and select "Properties".

In the General tab, set the Startup type to "Disabled":

User uploaded file

... and click OK.

Restart the PC. Are you able to delete the Bonjour folder in program files now?
