New ipad blue hue (ipad 3)

Has anyone noticed on the New ipad screen blue hue around the edges especially when there is a white background? If you look closely you can see A light blue color especially on the top and the bottom of the screen against a white background ? is this normal?

Hi deme87, yes I've noticed a similar thing here in Italy. I've purchased my New iPad 64GB 4G white 1 week ago.

My screen has a very slight blue (almost grey) "shadow" on the top edge, near the right corner (about 1 inch long). It's not possible to see it in portrait mode since it's covered by the iOS black bar but I can see it (if I look specifically for it...) when switching to landscape by rotating the device. More evident with complete white or neutral grey backgrounds.

However I consider myself lucky if I look at past threads about the New iPad screen issues. Apart for this insignificant (to me) issue the display is flawless with no backlight bleed, dead pixels, color casts or yellow tint 🙂

Overall better than my first iMac 27 display (replaced 4 times).

Yes, I got your point and I confirm I have a similar issue since it's related to edge-lit LED displays. With a resolution like this it's even more evident (the backlight has to be stronger). The fact is that everyone has it but the perception of this "defect" is personal, and so the severity: if I want to be picky then my iPad exhibits the issue you described, with the top border (in portrait mode) being the worst. Anyway if I look at my iMac 27 monitor very close and paying attention to it, in the same way I can notice the light blue here and there around the edges. In the day by day usage I simply don't notice it because I'm usually busy doing stuff with my iPad instead of simply looking at it ;-)

The good thing about Apple in the end is that you can always ask for a replacement if you're not happy with your unit. Maybe the next one will exhibit a less obvious "shading" to your eyes. My personal advice is to evaluate how bad is this issue for you and then decide, however you are not going to get a perfect panel simply because it does not exist: it will just be better or worse in light of your personal sensibility which, by the way, is different for all of us.

You cannot tell for sure. Nobody can.

If your judgment is based on stats, then I guess you will find out that there're not so many users out there posting on a forum complaining about such a "defect", simply because either they've already asked for a replacement or they're happy with their device in first place. This is not a "huge" defect like dead pixels, color tints or blotchy dark patches for which you can find many discussions on this forum. So, if this is the case, you would probably keep asking yourself "am I the unlucky one?" forever, thus please do yourself a favor and ask for a replacement.

Otherwise please consider this example: if I ask my father to look at my iPad's display he says he can't see the "defect". My girlfriend can. The iPad is the same so who's right and who's wrong?

My point is that you have to decide.

Basing on my own experience (I did it 4 times with the iMac), it's not worth trying to replace the iPad hoping to receive a "perfect" one: maybe you're lucky and would get a better one or maybe not. The fact is that replacement units are usually refurbished products that means you're going to get the device someone else has returned (properly inspected and cleaned by Apple, of course). Thus the highest chance of getting a good one is the one you already had buying your brand new unit. If you're still within the 14 days of "grace period" you can ask for a refund a buy a new one and this is probably the best option, otherwise follow my suggestion: keep it and enjoy your iPad, it's awesome! 🙂
