why has my recently added playlist disappeared

• Have you recently added songs to your Library? I think the default time for "recently added" is two weeks (I had to re-make my Recently Added Playlist, but I think that's how it was set).
• Is the Recently Added Playlist in your iTunes?
• Are there any songs in it?

If you've deleted the playlist in error the default rules are shown here, though you're free to define the list any way that suits you.

It's worth noting that some builds of iTunes won't sync smart playlists that include references to podcasts so Playlist is Music may be a better filter than Media Kind is not Podcast.

the quickest and easiest way is to sync yr iphone.

then with the phone connected and in itunes drag the 'recently played' or 'recently added' or whichever playlist is missing from yr phone over the iphone section on the left hand side... it will open up a list of where u want to drop it, drop it in music, check yr iphone again and the list should be bk in yr music folder

my solution doesnt work ... it just adds the recently played as a playlist and it doesnt update as you play more songs, it just acts as a playlist on its own but called 'recently played' 😟
