How should I back up my iPhone before I restore?

My iPhone is experiencing bugginess. I was told by an Apple Store Genius to wipe it and install a fresh iOS.

I currently have it backed up to my Mac via iTunes. Is there any value to setting up iCloud as its backup before I procede?

I would back it up to my Mac as well.

I want to retain my settings as best as I can.

You create a backup everytime you sync. You will also be given the chance to back up your phone when you perform a full restore (see step 6 under "Restoring your iOS device" here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414). When the restore completes your phone will restart and you will have to set it up again. In the process you will ber given the chance to Restore from an iTunes Backup rather or Restore as a New iPhone. Choose to restore from backup and let this complete. Finish by syncing your phone with iTunes to transfer you iTunes media (music, apps, etc.) back to your phone.

Before restoring your phone I highly recommend you import all of your photos (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083), and make sure you back up your contacts, either by syncing them to a supported program with iTunes, to a cloud service such as Google, or using an app like My Contacts Backup. Many users have discovered that they have lost their photos and contacts after restoring even though they had a backup.

Each time your sync your iPhone, the data, settings, and other information on the phone are automatically backed up on your computer. If you encounter a situation in which you need to restore, though, all you need to do is download this back up to your phone and you’ll be off and running again.

To begin to restore your iPhone data from the backup, connect your iPhone to the computer that you normally sync it to that contains the backup file (in most cases, this will be your normal computer. If you’re syncing to more than one machine, you should have backups on both computers. Just choose the computer with the backup you prefer).
