Title, in iOS 5.1 there were still battery bugs, are they fixed in 5.1.1? Or are they worse?

You actually got your iphone to downgrade to 5.1 from 5.1.1? How so? Apple isn't signing 5.1 anymore though. Would I still be able to do that? Don't you need to have the 5.1 shsh blob saved and yes I know that is a jailbreak term, but mine is not jailbroken. I have tried several attempts to downgrade and no luck 😟

How did you both upgraded to 5.1.1?

I would say you should do a new RESTORE in iTunes, just try it, i came from 5.0.1 and did a clean install of the new 5.1.1 by Restoring, configuring as new iPhone and after all that, restored the backed up info onto it.

Do a full battery charge after all this, leave 1h and half after it gets to 100%. Just read my post on the previous page.

First, I updated it OTA on the phone. The next several times, I either download 5.1.1 through iTunes or a website that it had available.

If you read my post, you'd see that I did a DFU mode restore and set it up as a brand new phone, in itunes. I did it all so often within a few days, that I am fed up with it already. It gets annoying after so many restores.

I have done the full battery charge, reset settings, etc, etc.

I did what i told you and it worked, i was using 5.0.1 and now i feel like im using a new phone with improved battery life and other stability issues i had.

If you can just Restore the phone as new on iTunes then config the iCloud account that you have the most important things backed up, don't restore the backup you have on iTunes, do a iCloud sync, and then do a Manual Definitions - General - HARD RESET. Then config the phone as new again, put the iCloud user and passw, then install all the apps 1 by 1 on the iPhone.

I did this way i described, i didn't want the old backup to ruin the chances of having a successful update. After all over leave it charging all night. It worked for me, now on standby with only GSM signal ON, like a normal phone, 8h on standby i lose 3%/4% battery. It seems normal and good now.

Hi, I had my 3GS on 5.1.1 and it drained the battery in about 6 hours. Even when it was off. Luckily I had the shsh for 4.1 and restored to that. Now, after 6 hours the battery is still at 87%.

I will keep my hands off of 5.1.1 for the 3GS. My 4 is running without problems on 5.1.1

I think it just has to do with the processor of the 3GS, it has to do much more work than the faster 4 one.

Hi All – I have also experienced the battery drain issue on upgrade to 5.1.1.

Like many on the forum I have tried ALL suggestions to resolve this issue, none of them have resolved the problem that Apple owners seem to be experiencing, it’s not in our minds as some suggest. My iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS are working a treat under 5.1.1, in fact I believe the 3GS is running better than under 4.3.x.

However I do think I have tracked the problem down, which I will document here, but first a list of the things I’ve tried:

  • - Fully discharge battery to <5% and then back to 100% and leave charging for 3 hours after
  • - Turn off all notifications
  • - Turn off all location services
  • - Turn down brightness
  • - Turn off ALL iCloud services (effectively delete the account)
  • - Reconfigure email account to ‘MANUAL Fetch’ only
  • - Factory restore to fresh 5.1.1 from within iTunes and then restore from back-up

The only thing that stops the battery discharging at around 5% every 8 hours is turning off Wi-Fi during standby mode. Prior to 5.1.1 the iPad would drain maybe 1% every 24 hours in standby mode with Wi-Fi on.

Puzzled by this I did some research to understand what the iPad is doing whilst in standby mode with Wi-Fi on, so below is a trace from the iPad system log so that hopefully someone can look at this , identify the issue and hopefully fix it in a future ios 5.1.x release:

These repeating messages appear approx every 30 seconds the wakeup packet contains the MAC addresses for my router and iPad, so one of them is misbehaving. This may be to do with how these have been implemented:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake-on-LAN

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_Proxy_Service

Either way I believe this is the source of the power drain issue whilst in standby with Wi-Fi turned on, perhaps this could be a router issue and that is why the issue not hitting everyone post 5.1.1?

All the best.
